Redness after two week steroid application

Hi all/wee dee,

My dermatologist put me on a steroid plan of using dermovate for twice a day for two weeks and then once a day for two weeks (month of use in total then re-visit him).

He is not sure what is causing the red flushing and when I saw him said it was quite close to normal on clinical appearance, but I showed him previous photos where he could see the redness come and go over time.

My question is, after keeping to the steroid plan my redness went significantly at around 12 days, and then yesterday (14 days) BANG....... red raw - honestly have never had that before. Could it be that the dermovate has finally broken down the skin to a certain point and now new skin on the glans is coming through? How does dermovate work exactly?

Cheers,

Calum

hi mate, what are you having the treatment for in first place? I have same , on glans, dermatologist thinks eczema . my glans had some kind of reaction after sex and then using a chemically product that seemed to react to . it went very very very wrinkled and looks awful when dry . when moisturized looks 99% normal. i use the steroid cream every few days , think it helping a bit but maybe has done some worsening of the rest of skin . hard to be sure. but I think time is the key too , it won't be a quick fix .what is your reason for needing it in first place? and if possible could you put pics on your post ?

and mine was red on lower half of glans, i think from skin trauma, so mine has not gone red from the steroid ointment itself but the skin is changing

Dermatologist is not sure but said most likey if biopsy was done it would come back as non specific dermatitis, so is reluctant. he said it could be eczema.

i get the exact same as what you are saying.... wrinkled but then when i moisturise as well looks normal.

Wait until after your next Dermatologist visit, use the dermovate as directed - ask the dermatologist to explain what is going on and clarify any other issues you may have ...

    Hi Wee Dug,

did your skin on your glans ever go wrinkly when applying the dermovate?

    cheers.

Sorry I did not see this previously. The role of dermovate is to get the skin as healthy as it possibly can, if the skin has wrinkles it would suggest you have something that is causing this, and, that you may be using the dermovate totally incorrectly based on your personal requirements and circumstances ....

    an update for all.

my dermatologist prescribed me an amazing cream that cleared things up. the cream was called trimovate and it is a 3 in 1 cream thats treats zoons balanitis. it has a antibiotic, fungal and steroid component to it.

after two days of applications (twice a day) it calmed everything down.

the dermatologist confirmed that it now looks completely normal even though still ever so slightly red, but as he explained when you have a foreskin this will always be the case.

anyway trimovate worked wonders for me. i hope it can help others.
