Redness at tip of penis -- how to make it go away?

Hi everyone,
I've been dealing with this issue for around 6 weeks. Have been tested for all major STIs and all negative. The issue is this;
- 6 weeks ago felt burning sensation in groin area (I live in a hot climate and seemed to have been triggered by not washing penis after sex one night)
- About 2 weeks ago started Miconazole which brought down the burning sensation a bit (but it might just be psychological). Before that tried fucidin for 3 days to no avail as well (doc switched to yeast meds as I was taking a lot of antibiotics before which should've cleared up a bacterial infection)
- The main things remaining are 1) the unhealthy looking redness (see attached - it looks worse when penis is erect) 2) the slight burning sensation and 3) sometimes stinging feeling in testicles...
The urologist I'm seeing seems to suggest to do a circumcision as my foreskin is very long ... I've been trying coconut oil and leaving my foreskin retracted for the past 4 days or so, no massive improvement so far which makes me think if circumcision will be effective...
My questions are:
- Do you guys think this is a yeast infection?
- Should try a different cream?
- Get a 2nd opinion from dermatologist?
- Get a culture done?
Any ideas welcome -- thanks

Yes bro get a culture done on a urogential fluid, fluid dripping off from the end of the penis see if they can get it massaged out

The irritation is on the head / glans of your penis, getting circumcised will likely do nothing to change that. I would suggest the Urologist is merely chasing additional payment, either for themselves or by referring you to a surgeon to do the circumcision. So yes, having your foreskin retracted is a good idea, I would suggest, if you can, to keep it retracted until you have managed to get this issue resolved.
Essentially, do not get circumcised, the foreskin is very precious and you are likely to experience side-effects, potentially as a result of the operation, and more likely long-term for the newly permanently exposed head of the penis.
What I think that either the Doctor or the Urologist should have tried is a corticosteroid such as Trim .. ovate (delete spaces, cannot use brand names on here) - what these have is active steroid of moderate strength, an anti-fungal agent and an active antibiotic to fight potential bacterial issues. I agree the antibiotics (oral ?) were the best thing to try first as you need to be careful with creams and ointments on skin on the Meatus and glans area.
I would certainly see a Dermatologist, the best would be one dealing with Genital Health issues - but certainly any Dermatologist is likely to try several treatments to help the skin recover.
Just checking, are you regularly having unprotected penetrative sex and the risk of fungal / bacterial infection is still present?
In terms of what has actually caused this, that may not be straightforward to conclude upon. So was the sex 6 weeks ago unprotected, or did you use a condom but you did not clean up and wash afterwards?

Hi Wee_Dugie,
Thanks so much for your in-depth reply. I'll reply to your points below
The pic I took might be a bit misleading as it does effect the entire head of the penis, as well as the base that touches the foreskin when retracted. It is true though that the infection seems to be most severe near the opening of the meatus. From what I read circumcision does seem to have only upsides, and not much downsides? Even if it doesn't cure my condition, it might just prevent it from happening again ... would you disagree? Do you have bad experiences with circumcision yourself?
Thanks for this suggestion, I'll be going back to the urologist tomorrow and also planning to check with another dermatologist and will bring up this cream
Since this started 6 weeks ago, I did not have any sexual encounter of any kind.
I had protected sex in a nuru massage parlour -- the therapist was found not to have any STIs and I myself have also been cleared as I mentioned. I do remember not washing my penis properly after that encounter and this may have caused it...

I guess balinitis is the commonly accepted diagnosis ... now the question is, how to get rid of it 😦
Thanks again for your reply

There was a Urologist who used to reply to posts on here, he had been circumcised as a child, the procedure was botched and he experienced a number of severe problems that he was still dealing with in adulthood. His experiences made him determined to, a.) become a Urologist himself, b.) to educate others that the foreskin should always be retained because the benefits it provides outweigh the positive aspects of what a correctly done circumcision can provide. As well as this, there is always risk with any surgical procedure - and while I would not suggest that any male being circumcised will experience problems, it is a possibility.
As well as this, there have been several males on here in the last year who had a circumcision done to cure an infection or severe irritation and in two cases Lichen Sclerosus, they all still had the original issue still to deal with, only afterwards they were minus the foreskin and the resultant issues that go with that.
So my advice would be work with a Dermatologist and a Urologist you can trust and cure what is commonly referred to as Balanitis - then once this is sorted make a calm rational decision as to whether you get circumcised or not, simply, once it is gone, it is gone for good ......

hi thanks for your reply. I did think if mycoplasma before but it was quickly dismissed here by doctors as they say its very rare and also i dont have any discharge. did you have discharge? did you also have a constant nagging feeling in your stomach? did you manage to get your issue resolved yet?

Ok thanks, I'll do the tests. How long have you been having this issue? Did you also think of balinitis at first?

its a long story...i got this about 6 month ago...i told my ex that we should get checked because this happened to me..she got checked first and her test showed that she had candida only...so i didnt do the test assuming i have candida too..so i took abtibiotics and a canesten cream the doc prescribed an antibiotic for trichomonas too (he didnt write trich in the test so couples dont fight who is the one who cheated) ...the problem didnt seem to go away...one day i go to a clinic to get testes and other than candida i had trich too..i told her and then broke up with her cause it means she cheated...took another antibiotic for trich...after that i still wasnt completely cured i thought now it might be balanitis but wanted to be sure,so i took all the std tests and they found mycoplasma and ureplasma...but they need different antibiotics...there was when i realised i was having a dumpster as a gf hahah.good luck on your journey man...just take a test for all the stds...and try some coconut oil.
