I have read that it is wise to increase your dosage before an operation.  How much?  I guess your doctor would advise on that.

Been to doctors today I've got a bad infection in my groin .doctor has told me to up my steroids and I got to have a scan

The practice used to be to increase the dosage to cover surgery but more recent thought is to monitor the patient more closely. It is something that is up to the individual surgeon and anaesthetist - some do, some don't.

Ooh!  Hope the infection clears up quickly and you'll soon be feeling better.

I was, determined not to increase my steroids but the pain was really bad this morning so had to do what doc said and gone back to 4mg a day that was my previous amount before reducing to 4/3 alternative days xx

I know how much (almost) everyone hates being on pred but there is no virtue in being on too low a dose to manage your symptoms - unless you decide you don't want to take it at all and will put up with the constant pain and immobility and the long term risks of unmanaged inflammation in your body.

You need to take enough to provide relief - too little and there are no benefits to balance the downsides. That's why the search is for the lowest dose that manages the symptoms as well as the starting dose does - you don't want to be on too much but you also don't want to be on not enough.

After being on the 4 mg and feeling better, then try going to the 4/3 mg. again.  I had to do that when I was tapering.  Sometimes, I tapered too quickly and, as a result, pain.  However, I would then try again at a later date, and it seemed to work.
