Hi Caroline, you're not alone in experiencing terrible withdrawal and a return of worsening symptoms. You don't say how long you took to taper but it is advisable to taper very very slowly off these drugs, especially from 10mg Citalopram and less. I would have directed you to places that advise on tapering and that coming off 10mg is the most difficult to come off,but you have already been off a week. If you have tapered too quickly, I have heard people have reinstated the last smallest dose for some relief and then tapered off again slowly off that. Tapering very slowly can minimise the debilitating withdrawal lots of people experience.

What you're experiencing now is a dependency on the drug, and your mind is trying to readjust again after having a mental crutch for two years. Just like discarding a crutch for a broken leg and experiencing increased pain from walking unaided, your brain is going through a similar painful process without the drug. If you go back to the doctor, they will probably tell you you are having a resurgence of your original condition and reinstate you back on. Then you will be back to square one. I wouldn't advise complicating things with CBD oil as that acts like an antidepressant. There are other places like Surviving Antidepressants and Citalopram and withdrawal groups on FB for help and support. Good luck and hang on in there,it does get better .
