Reducing dose of Pregabalin

Hi everyone,

I want to start reducing my dose of Pregabalin, due to having gained a lot of weight while taking it plus Amitriptyline. I successfully reduced and stopped the Amitriptyline with no ill-effects, and wonder if anyone on here has successfully withdrawn  from Pregabalin. I am currently taking the max dose; 300mg twice a day. Any advice? x

      Hi Sadie,

yes that is indeed the question! Also I found I had become quite emotionally detached, so I'm also wondering if coming off it will turn me into an emotional wreck! The bad period cramps could well be due to the fibro; luckily I'm past all that. Take care x

Hi, I was on that amount for a few years with all the weight gain and severe headaches too. It took me six months to come off it, but I'm glad I did. I'm on another medication now and slowly reducing my weight. My mood isn't as swingy i suppose I could call it. I'm not up and down as often. I'm really glad I came off it. So you can get off it but you need to reduce it in very small amounts and every few weeks. Good luck, but I'm sure you won't need it you'll be fine.

Hi Maley Bear, thanks for your reply. I will see my GP before I start reducing. I have read that you reduce the dose by 75mg a day, for a week at a time but you must have done it more slowly if you took six months? And like Sadie I'd like to know what other medication you are on. x

I have just been told today by my doctor that being on Pregablin is like taking Cannibis. I didn't know this and he has reducded me from 150 mg to 100mg and then 50mg..

I constantly have headaches and have gain over 2 stone in weight.  I feel emotionally switched off as well.  This could also be to do with other medications I am on.

I don't know if there is side effects while reducing.

Hi, Well I'm on quite a list but the pain meds are naproxen, amitriptoline and tramadol. When I was on Pregabalin I wasn't on amitriptoline. I found that when I was on Pregabalin I gained four stone and even if I took my tablet half and hour later than I normally did I would suffer debilitating migraines, that would put me out of action for the whole day. I couldn't live like that any longer, I had been on them for two and half years so not as long as some. But my doctor was addiment I had to come off them really slowly because of the migraines, (which effected my blood pressure) and the adverse effect Pregabalin was having on me. I hope I have given you something to think about. 🙂
