Reducing pred and in tears all the time

Hi, i haven't been on here for a while but this is the most reliable source i know for all things PMR and pred.

I have been on pred for about five years, got down to

3mg twice and had to go back up to 10 mg the first time and 7mg the second time. Anyway, here i am again. Going from 3.5 mg to 3mg and taking 3 months over it! I am worried because i am experiencing lots if very sore throats, had two boughts of ' waterworks' problems resolved by anti biotics, fatigue, general feeling of 'I can't cope with anything if it is the least bit away from my routine. I am also getting very tearful at the least upset and once i start crying i can't stop. It makes me feel as though i will never be happy again. I am generally a 'glass half full' sort of a person and normally just get on with what ever life throws at me. Actually it is a bit like extreme PMT!

So my question is has anyone else had these problems? Or maybe something else is going on and i should go to the doctor

I sympathise, I finally got down to 5mg. of Pred. I didn't feel right and had a Synacthen test which showed that I was deficient, my Rheum. advised me to taper gradually, I then got a call from my G.Ps office asking if I was already on Hydrocortisone. Iwasn't so they asked me to check if I should be which I did, the Hospital then asked my G.P. to put me on Hydro. with immediate effect. I was taking 10mg. 5mg. 5mg. daily which pushed my blood pressure through the roof, made me extra short tempered, and interfered with sleep a lot! Isaw my Rheum. meantime and said I wished I had reduced the Pred. as she said, but wasn't given a choice. She went to speak with the endochrinology Dr. and they both agreed that I should discontinue with the third day-time tablet, and the B.P. has reduced, my sleep has improved, (my temper I'm still working on). Good luck!
