reeses pin worm for Hook worms and Ascaris

Hi all! I have been suffering with round and hook worms for over a year now. I now have recently picked up pin worms .. has anyone ever tried reeses pin worm medication for hook worms and Ascaris? I’m afraid to try it considering I’ve heard ascaris will migrate to other parts of the body since the medication is not strong enough? Has anyone heard of reeses pin worm medication working for other types?

Hi - What is your symptom history? I took a mebendazole based pinworm medication when I had mistakenly been diagnosed with pinworms.  It ultimately led me to a correct diagnosis as it resulted in my passing very large dead worms that a professor of tropical medicine diagnosed as Ascaris.  I then was prescribed Ivermectin.  I am on day 4 of Ivermectin and the symptoms initially increase due to die off (it has been very frightening as they are under my scalp and in my eye and nasal passages.  My symptoms in that area are also worse at night).  If you have ascaris you need ivermectin or Albendazole asap.  The difficulty is trying to get a diagnosis because stool tests come back negative EVEN full of dead worms (such was my experience which was distressing as I was getting increasingly ill - I had vision disturbances and breathing difficulty but hadn’t connected the dots).  You need a specialist doctor to view the dead worms in your sample - adult worms are the smoking gun for diagnosis.  The blood tests are unreliable too; people can die and only show mildly abnormal blood work.   Be sure to photograph / video the worms - I was very frustrated when a even tropical medicine unit at a hospital failed to get a doctor to visually ID a sample pot full of dead worms before the nurses sent it off to the lab for testing (which predictably came back negative).

Thanks for the reply Eloise That’s awful but I’m glad you’re getting treatment and hopefully you will be cured. My test have all came back negative as well even when you can clearly see the worms.. Eventually after explaining to the specialist that I see long threadlike worms that are about 4 inches in length, I was told ascaris is common and that is what he said is it. I’m not sure if that’s even right because they are so skinny of worms. When another doctor had looked at my butt, she had said there were eggs visible so I was diagnosed with pinworms..  I’ve tried one dose of albendazole but I had hives and difficult breathing from it that I was told not to take anymore.. my symptoms are hunger at night and sharp pain in my abdominals with twitching. The sharp pain is terrible when eating sweets like candy or greasy foods.. I’m losing power and weight as well and I don’t know what else I can do..  possibly a tape worn??  These enemies are hard to get rid of!!

Mikayla the hives and breathing difficulty could have been from the worms as well. It happens to me quite often.

It sounds like the specialist is right in them being Ascaris.  Mine have varied from a cm in length to 8 inches (!) - it just depends what stage of the life cycle they are at! Mine are not as thick as the pictures of Ascaris Lumbricodes that come up on Google, but there are loads of different types of Ascaris.  The professor I saw said they are the “spaghetti” or “noodle” looking ones.  I would go back to the first specialist you saw and request Ivermectin if you have had an allergic reaction to Albendazole (sorry to hear about that!). But also bear in mind that Ascaris can give you a rash and breathing problems - I have been short of breath for about two weeks.  That is nonsense about the fact eggs are visible suggest it is pinworms - pinworms are a type of roundworm, as are Ascaris, and both come out to lay their eggs at night.  It’s just you really know about it if you have Ascaris!  I would go back to the first doctor who gave you albendazole and discuss your reaction, symptoms and try Ivermectin.  Ivermectin is actually more effective.  I am going back to see my professor tomorrow.  Day 5 on ivermectin and I still feel riddled with worms and so unwell (it is like someone is picking apart my chest) but hopefully the situation isn’t getting any worse.  Let us know when you get back to the doctor - I would go ASAP.  I honestly feel like if the first hospital had given me ivermectin I wouldn’t be in this position.  I went downhill quite fast in just a week.
