Reflux

Recently had a couple of bad cases of reflux within an hour of going to bed,my throte was burning it felt as though I wanted to be sick and had a terrible taste in the mouth, I had to sit up for at least an hour before things subsided.after taking advice and not eating for a least 3 hours before retiring seems to have done the trick, but there is nothing worse than going to bed when your hungry and not feeling tired.

ive read somewhere that raising the bed at an angle could reduce the risk, anyone any ideas on hoe I could manage that/what to use ?

I used a large plank of wood to prop my bed up - legs of the bed not likely to fall off it. Bricks would be too unstable under my metal framed bed. I know what you mean about the 3 hour rule before going to bed. Proper torture when your other half makes cheese toasties 1 hour before bed.

Problem is I have a divan so no legs to play with, I've managed the 3 hour rule for 4 nights now and it works, hope I get used to going to bed hungry,it's not bad if your tired.

Someone here once said that he had a fishermans bivuac bed/chair. They are adjustable and he said comfortable.

My specialist doctor told me that it is more important not to drink anything before going to bed. If you imagine a hot water bottle with an open end lying down - you can see what she means - sloppy stuff is worse than solids. I do feel pretty dehydrated at night, but it has made a difference, as I was waking up choking after falling asleep, which was pretty frightening.

I can understand that having fluids may be worse than having solids before retiring, to be on the safe side I don't have either now.

I can't understand sometimes,I used to go out an evening have a few pints then a meal afterwards and not have a problem, on the other hand I will stay in watching the television have a bag of crisps and a chocolate bar and reflux appears !!

me too! I sympathise entirely. I guess even the chocolate and crisps are no go's. i think that alkaline water has helped me a bit - I also have 40mg of omeprazole before bed. I still have choking episodes randomly at night though, and sometimes despite having nothing to eat or drink. My voice is also affected, which is wretched, as I sing and conduct a choir.
