I was prescriirbed 40,000 units per day for two weeks, another test and then 20,000 for 5 days.  Then another test.

Once up to speed, I have taken 1,000 units per day as a maintenance dose.  I buy them fro Boots 90 tablets, £5.10p.

When deficient it causes aches and pains just like PMR.  So once up to speed they should lessen.

I doubt that low vit D would cause you to cough up blood, no.

Is that 20,000 IU just once off? Or 1x per week or 3x per week for 8-10 weeks? And it may take a few weeks to start to feel significantly better - although my husband was severely deficient with his level in single figures and didn't have a symptom at all. Except his BP went down once his level had improved - that can be an effect.
