Regular ovarian cysts and contraception

Some advice please.a couple of month ago I found out I had a 5.2cm fluid filled cyst on my left ovary. Had my next ultrasound scan this week and it has gone but I've got one on my right ovary now just a little bit smaller so having another scan in 6 weeks and it looks like I'm getting one every cycle.the nurse said to talk to my doctor and discuss my contraception options. I've been on the mini pill for about 2 years and was on the combined pill before that for about 12 years with no problems but had to come off due to headaches. Last time I saw the doc she suggested the mirena coil or the injection but I don't want either of them. Am I out of options or does anyone know another suggestion? Or do i just live with them and take painkillers ? I get bloated and uncomfortable and bottom of my back aches and pain on the side of the cyst. The pain normally starts around when i ovulate and calms down after my second period.(I have 2 a month at the moment).

Hi Michelle, they sound like 'functonal cysts)! Try going to the top of this page, 'Womens Health Ovarian cyst' click on that and see if you can find more info on them. They happen when you ovulate and quite a lot of women get them. They can be controlled by birth control but you will have to discuss this further with your gynaecologist to decide which method is best for you. Hope this helps. I think others may come on and give more advice but it's the weekend so you might have to wait.  See what other info you can find on this forum as I explained above. Best wishes, Poll X

Try taking different formulas. My first birth control irritated my gut so my gyno. Switched my formula. It has been working great with me. Even though the doctor claims that birth control doesn't help with pain but that it helps with stopping ovulation and therefore growth, I'm convinced the new pill really helps with the pain.

Hope this helped and good luck.
