Regular overdosing on paracetamols

Hi, I suffer from anxiety and depression, and my coping stragety at the moment is overdosing on paracetamols.  I usually take ten and this happens on a weekly basis.  Is this dangerous?  What are the risks involved?

Hi, I used to do thi with the cocodamol. It had to stop. I went to the dr to see if they could do something. She has prescribed me anti depressant for the depression and anxiety. The side effect are horrible, but I have to do something. Maybe you can go and see your gp?

Thank you anthony, I've already been to GP and am on anti depressant.  Both my GP and CPN know I take paracetamols but I just can't stop.  Have actually taken 10 earlier tonight.

You are not likely to die after taking 10 but some people can die after taking 15. That all depends on how often you are overdosing though & the condition of your liver. I took an overdose of between 20-30 once & needed to be submitted to hospital for treatment as if I didn't they said I would die (judging by my toxicity readings). It was awful. They give you meds which protect your liver but make you extremely ill, very sick. You look at the people around you who are genuinely I'll & I couldn't believe I put myself there, on drips, people staring at you. I had to see a psychiatrist before they would even let me out if hospital once I'd recovered as they needed to establish if I was a danger to myself or mental. You can be detained under the mental health act & sectioned against your will. You need counselling & maybe a meeting with someone with end stage liver failure might put things in more perspective for you.. You have a self harming issue at the end of the day, I don't think you want to die but you want to hurt yourself for some reason x

Hopefully the anti-depressions you are on are ones designed to help with anxiety, like citalopram or venlafaxine. If one type doesn't work for you then try another. I've had both of these with no side effects at all. Hope you're ok x

Thank you nikki, I am on escitalopram, have been for about 18 months now.  Have diazepam to take as needed too.  I used to be on buspirone too but they were recently stopped, said I didn't need them anymore and didn't trust me with too many meds.

I have taken 10 paracetamols tonight, last time was on Saturday morning.  It was 10 then too.
