Rehabilitation after ankle fusion

I had an ankle fusion 14 weeks ago and after 12 weeks in plaster, progressed to an aircast boot.  The surgeon told me to walk around the house without the boot from 14 weeks, so I've just started doing that,  but am finding I have lots of pain in the foot - below the toe and along the left side of my foot when I attempt to walk and roll through the foot.  Am walking with crutches now without the boot, and trying to roll through the foot as much as possible, hoping that the muscles will relax.  The hospital told me very little about what to expect at this point and haven't referred me for physio so I'm feeling a bit lost. Is this foot pain normal? (I don't have pain in the actual ankle, it's just everywhere else, including my opposite hip and knee too!).

Wow! I am sitting here in tears. Tears of happiness (that I stumbled onto this forum), tears of gratitude (that I am not alone in this God forsaken journey) tears of just knowing that I'm not making up the pain, the frustration that comes with a traumatic injury, the depression and feelings of being alone , the feelings of guilt (for speaking about how you feel) SO I am sitting here in tears, knowing there is someone that knows, really knows, what it is that I have experienced and still experiencing since that awful night of November 10th, 2018. I remember driving home with my best friend (with fur) Gracie May, after a late) grooming session (she looked so pretty). We had stopped for treats, Ice cream for both of us (she got Pupsicles) we were almost home and.....next thing I remember was waking up at OHSU Trauma Center on November 12th with multiple injuries including both ankles fractured with my left Talus bone completely pushed up, out and away from my ankle, fractured sternum, multiple tiny spinal fractures (dodged a bullet there) extensive deep bruising (lasted for months afterwards) and a ripped right coronary artery (no stokes, thank goodness but a strong possibility, still to this day) Anyway, we had been in a head-on collision 3 miles from home!! And my life has never been the same! Now it's all about doctors, surgeries and the lovely insurance companies. Oh and my friend PAIN, pain in the ass if you ask me. He never has left my side, my buddy, my pal. Got to love him, embrace him, watch him every second because if you don't, he will mess up your life. Enough, enough. I always say I should bring cheese with my whine. I have to admit that I've thought of why I wasn't taken Home that night (and the saddest part of that night is my baby did not survive) Why was I still here? (I still know know) and I would never take my own life (I'm too lazy) but I DO know that there has been multiple days when "living" has been extremely hard, if you knw what I mean! Ok, I'll end the novel now! I apologize, I write like I talk, too much!! I'm grateful to have found kindred spirits and look forward to reading ya all's trials, tribulations, successes and solutions. God speed.

i had ankle fusion surgery in March this year due to a foot drop which id had for more than 10years. The pain and swelling have drastically reduced but not gone.

Most pain comes after being inactive e.g. when i sleep and have to go to the bathroom at night, the pain is there. OR If ive been walking, then i sit for a while and have to get up and walk again. Any idea on reducing the pain?

Ofcourse i had quite a bit of muscle atrophy from before and just wondering if that will ever go away & if ill ever regain my muscle form?

I did the surgery to reduce my limp & get a "normal gait" & strengthen my joint but it feels like the limp is worse than before. Any ideas on how to regain a normal gait?

im ofcourse doing therapy but i would love to hear from other people who have gone through similar experinces. My doctor says all this is to be expected owing to my previous condition and my other joints overcompensating but fails to be clear on pain and how long this will go on for. Any ideas are welcome at this point

I had an ankle fusion surgery of the left foot/ankle on February 28, 2023 and have still not recovered fully. The fusion involved fusion of the ankle and subtalar joint. By that I mean the ability to walk without pain. I wear a shoe and purchased some in sole arch supports from a podiatrist. I cannot walk without pain in the arch and heel of my foot. The pain and discomfort are still present eight months out. A cane helps, but I don't want to walk with a cane the rest of my life. It seems my recovery is taking longer than normal and I see no end in sight.
