Relapse

Not sure how I feel about tonight, I've drunk nearly 2 bottles of wine , I started drinking at 4pm.

I'm ok I know I'm a bit drunk but not out of control, I know I'll remember in the morning blah blah

Those were the things made me do my alcohol reduction, but I know it's too much alcohol

Shall I just chalk it to what it is, I've stayed up cos my son is out in London and not in yet and I won't sleep til he's home, so that's given me more drinking hours

I also know 3 months ago I would've been passed out drunk by now and I definitely aren't

But I have been doing under a bottle of wine no alcohol all week, so I'm a big disappointed

I think I'll just wake up tomorrow and start a fresh ...

    Hi Rachel

I admire you for being able to reduce your alcohol intake please give me some tips!!

My drinking started because I couldn't take the physical abuse from my husband when he was drunk (when in Rome as they say!!) it gave me the courage to fight back!!

My parents were big dirnkers aswell, unfortunately my dad has passed away now but my mum has had a few nasty injuries due to alcohol and is still drinking.

I want to safely reduce my alcohol intake (I can drink upto half a litre of Whisky a day by the way) but am scared of the withdrawal process so how did you do it??

I would seriously welcome your advice.

I'd love to help really I would but I think it's self help that works so unless you are prepared for hard determined work which isn't a walk in the park then you need professional help, mine came from an alcoholic mother I believe, but we are all in charge of our own emotions and doings, for me this helped me coming on here talking to people and also trying to remember how hard I hate myself drunk and learning the cliche to love ones self! Corny but true, if you really want to you will!! Stay strong xxx

Thanks for your advice and I think you're right it will take a lot of determination and self belief. It has just become a way of life that needs to be changed. It's just having the guts to take that first step really but having been given this site by my G.P primarily for Depression and Anxiety (not helped by my alcohol intake!!!) I have already found that talking to people that understand all the issues really helps, it feels like you have support instead of the usual pull yourself together answer.

I hope we can talk regularly and support each other through this?? It would really be a great help to me xxx

Of course no problem, it's very hard to find people who understand, I have a supportive husband and family but it has taken myself to change

I obviously had a small slip up yesterday and drank more than I have in a while but I'm still proud of myself and know I will be alright (fingers crossed).

I stopped drinking in the week altogether a few years ago and I know a lot of people on this forum have said they just couldnt do it without gp help and medication which seems to have helped a lot of people

How about thinking first of all can I do this or if not seeing your gp about medication ??

Let me know how you get on

Hi Sandie. Sorry to hear what a difficult time you've had. Most GP 's don't know much about alcohol problems but they can refer you to people who can help. This forum is lovely and supportive. There is someone on here who works in the field and can give you advice on treatment. If you post on here I for one will always reply. Best wishes

Don't worry Rachel, tomorrow (or today as it is now!) is another day. Sounds like you've done well cutting down over the past 3 months, so don't get disheartened just because you've had one slip :-)
