Relief in sight for Lichen Sufferers

I have been suffering from LS for over 6 years.  I am pre-menopausal and 48.  Chlobetosol has been able to manage it until about a year ago.  The LS has been very angry and I appeared very bruised, raw and white.  The only relief was with a combination of the steroids, not wearing underwear at night, only wearing cotton during the day and staying away for irritants in soaps has helped. I tried changing my diet but I don't know how much it helped.    I was getting very nervous about my future and how it can affect me personally and my marriage if it continued to get worse.   My gyno had told me about clincial trials using a CO2 Laser Treatment and that I would be an excellent candidate for it, however, their office was only thinking about purchasing this machine.   On Valentines Day my doctor called to tell me that their office made this purchase and asked if I would accept treatment at no cost since they would be learning how to use the device on me and some other patients.   My answer was YESSSS.   I have to say that I just completed the third treatment and I have experienced a complete change.  My doctor mentioned yesterday at my 3rd treatment that the coloring is all consistently pink, as it should be and barely a sign of LS.  They say 3 treatments are needed and I should experience more relief in the next few weeks. The itching is almost gone. Fortunately, I didn't have a lot of pain, I experienced extreme itching, some fusing and raw skin.

I have one last appointment to see how things are and if I need one last treatment even if its just one spot, she will do it.  Then I may only need an annual zap.  The laser causes trauma but the body creates new collagen and improved elasticity and healthy tissue.  I hope it improves the fusing as well as it has for other people.

This device has been around but used for SUI and vaginal rejuvenation.  There are many studies showing how it helps people with LS and very successful.

Please ask your doctor if its available and if you would be a candidate, it can change your life!

I believe they do.      The Mona Lisa is the name of one machine, but there are others as well that provide the same treatment. I would suggest some research and calling your physician to see if its an option.

      Good luck!

Yes this is called Mona Lisa. I just did my 3rd treatment yesterday. My Dr thought it was much better already after 2nd treatment when she saw me yesterday.  My color has gotten better and cant wait to see if after this 3rd treatment when im healed up will be even better.

Hi Danielle, What was it like after the first treatment? Did it hurt while having the procedure? Did you have fusing before the treatment? Are you saying you had itching and rawness for awhile as a result of the procedure? It is exciting to think that this might be a solution to this problem, but I would be worried about feeling worse. Would like a doctor with plenty of experience.Do you live in the U.S. or Europe?Thx. for sharing. Your input is so appreciated.

I live in the US - New York.  Prior to the O2 treatments I had fusing, the itching caused the rawness.  The appearance was bruised or white.  The chlobetosol was barely helping and I was using it twice a day.

Before the treatment, the Dr. applies a numbing cream for 20 minutes so you don't feel the laser treatment. I felt a minimal pinch.  Afterward I was swollen and sore but after a day I was better.  Each treatment takes less time to heal.  Truthfully I felt good after 3 days for the first, after 1 day with the second and the third the next day I was fine.  Minimal discomfort.
