Remission

Feeling optimistic. Haven't had an attack now for 6 weeks. First time in 16 months. Have been religiously taking my Betahistine. Its not other things like cutting out salt caffeine alcohol as I have been doing that since first diagnosed 16 months ago. I wake up every morning thinking is this the day but im not stressed ovet it. Has anyone else gone into remission out of the blue and if so for how long. I have been on Betahistine since the beginning. Just seems weird. I know M is unpredictable but just grateful for this time.

Wow that's great. And all you do is take Betahistine? No surgeries? I have only been on Beta for 3 months you give me hope that it will work. Really don't want surgery

Yes i have had 1 procedure with a steroid injection through eardrum didn't work and was left with perforated eardrum. Give it time. Thankful for these few weeks.

I was first diagnosed in 1998 had the steroid injection then and was on fluid pill and meclzine and after a few months it went away and never had another problem i went on with my normal life like a normal person then bam it hit me again in 2013 and I had another steroid injection didn’t work this time so I been battling it every day since I even had to go on disability this time around.

Wow 15 years remission. I know it can come back at ant time. Give me 15 years and I would be ecstatic. Also depends how old you are. Im 65 so any amount of years or even months is a blessing. May i ask how old you are as I would hate to still have this getting older.

Oh dear thats young. I had my first attack at 63. Really hope it subsides for you or goes away for another 15 or more years.

Yea I wish it would go away again it really causes a person to miss so much in life I pretty much just stay at home and don’t go anywhere I’m not on any medicine right now because nothing seemed to help so i said forget it.

Hi Maria, Ive had MD for 12 years at least, Im with you on the cutting out stuff over the years Ive systematically cut out every thing remotely blamed for MD and it never made any difference, apart from the fags and alcohol then I felt better in myself but that was all, Im just a couple of years older than you and over the last few years the attacks have been less frequent and less violent, so yeah remission can really last for a longer period over a year and more, Im sure betahistine is another myth but thats the one thing Im to scared to ditch!

Haha peter. Im the same too scared to even cut down on the Betahistine. I have given up alcohol but was never a serious drinker but the cigs are a different story. Have cut down but having trouble giving up completely. Hope we both have a long remission.

I went into remission for five years and really thought it was gone for good, but then it came back last year and has been with me ever since. At the moment I’m having attacks most days, some very short ones that last a couple of minutes, but yesterday I had one that went on for two hours. It’s so unpredictable, you can never be sure what it’s going to do next. I’m on Betahistine and Cinnarazine, plus buccastem for during an attack.

Thats good news for me. I'd be happy with any time in remission at the moment. Unbelievable that its come back after so long for you. Its seems to have a cycle with some people. Wish it would go away permanently.

Same here Maria! It would be lovely not to have to deal with it on a daily basis wouldn’t it?

I’m taking Betahistine 16mgx3 each day and I take 6 tablets of   Cinnarazine a day.

June i am also on 16x3 a day and only take Stemitil when I feel an attack coming on which hasn't been fir 5 weeks. So grateful for the break.

Well I was given them for the Menieres because I was just on the betahistine and was having attacks every day, so my doctor said I could take Cinnarazine alongside them. I think they are also used for motion sickness.

Sounds like what I have called Stemitil. Although Im only told to take Stemitil when i feel an attack coming on and also during an attack so they may be different.
