remission from uc flare advice

Posted , 5 users are following.

So after a very bad flare and a hospital stay I was put on predniselone and cyclosporine...obviously with all the side effects, moon face, weight gain, hair growth etc.

I have just reciently tapered off the predniselone and stopped the cyclosporine and am now on just azathiaprine.

I developed the facial hair growth whilst on the steroids and was hoping it would go away when I stopped but it has got worse. I now have excess hair growth everywhere and am very self conscious of it on my arms and face!

Is this normal? Is it the steroids and it's effect on my body trying to get back to normal? I was on them for 6 months. Or is it a side effect from the azathiaprine?

Thanks

Hi, feel for you, as if it's not bad enough, we get cosmetic issues to get us down too. I believe azathioprine can, as can steroids and cyclosporin, and you have had a lot of these meds recently. Don't live with it, people seem to think, well the uc is ok so why worry about how you look, I don't agree, we want to feel normal, go back to the doctor and see if there is anything else they can do, research to see if any diets can help.

    Good luck

Hiya, i am quite downy on my face anyway, & am currently tapering down prednisolone for a flare. the steroids did make my facial hair grow more & quicker. even when not on steroids, for vanity reasons , once a week i remove unwanted hair on sides of my face, top lip & chin with b..ts own facial hair remover cream costs about £3 a pack lasts about 2 to 3 goes. it is the gentlest facial hair remover & i only need to do once a week to keep my face hair free where it is worst. you only leave it on for about 4 to 5 mins , & job done. make sure you use the finishing moisturiser that comes in pack after. it comes in a white pack with pink writing on & is only for facial areas. hope this helps xx
