Removal of Nevro Spinal Stimulator
Posted , 6 users are following.
I have discovered that my back pain is worse with my stimulator on. The battery is very uncomfortable and closer to the surface of my skin than two years ago when it was implanted. I want to have have the battery pack or whole system removed. Has anyone had one removed? Is it possible just to have the battery pack removed?

WOW ! We could almost be the same person but you have a year on me. My issues are exactly the same. They told me it was because I lost weight. Taking 4 vicatin a day for pain . We have made an appointment with a third specialist. The people at NEVRO have adjusted mine twice already I am seriously thinking of having it removed also. I will wait to see what this doctor says. Good luck to you. I totally feel your PAIN.

Linda, Nevro has reprogrammed mine at least 20 times, and I am still trying to fine one that will work for me. I am taking 45mg. of oxy, per day, but I know the Nevro is a good product, to many people are happy with it, I have an appointment to see the doctor on the 21st. of dec, to find out about a missing lead and what can be done? Nevro reps. has given me a chart to keep up with programs that I have tried and score each one of them.(still working on them) to find one or two that gives me some pain relief. But first I have to address the missing lead.
Good luck Linda, keep us posted with updates.

i must have been reprogramed at least ten times. it has been turned off for almost two weeks now and i feel much less pain than when it has been on during the last two years! the battery pack is really uncomfortable for me, as it is so low on my hip that i am sitting on it.
i thought that if i just had the battery/computer pack removed it would be much less painful to recover from and less likely to cause damage to the spinal tissues where the leads are

Hi Betty, I feel your pain, My battery had to be moved from the right side to the left side just above my hip.
and a lead is now missing? But that is another story. Have you lost weight sense the unit was installed? If so, that explains why it seems closer the surface. The Nevro can be removed, But I am not a doctor and can only relate to you what I know from others or my doctor. If you should have it removed why not in total? You know the cost of the unit itself can be $18,000 plus dollars, Please be sure that is what you really want, talk to your doctor to be sure, or your options that may be better for you. Has the stimulator been working for you, if so, maybe you need to reprogram the stimulator to get better pain relief. I know it can be a pain (no Pun intended) to work through different programs to find the right one that works for you, but hang in there and work with your doctor or the manufactures rep. to help you, before you make a leap of no return. I will have to go into the hospital just to get the lead replaced or found, And as I understand it, it will also involve a lot of , well to much to go into on hear. Go luck, It may not be bad as it seems , work with the doctor and the maker of the unit.

i think having just the pack removed would cause less pain and possible tissue damage in the areas of the leads.
i have had at least 10 program changes and it just never seems to work. the battery pack is very uncomfortable as it is so low on my hip that i sit on it. the machine has been completely off for two weeks and i feel much better than when its been on. i have taken much less pain medication also.
i haven't lost or gained any weight since the unit was installed.

I am kinda afraid to turn it off my pain is so bad that I have myself believing that it IS working. That is why I am seeing another doctor. I really love to sew and the pain stops me. my motto is SMILE THROUGH THE PAIN

I may try turning it off after I see the new doctor. I is very frustrating because you wonder if the stimulator is working or is it the meds OR both

i have acupuncture every two weeks, PT weekly, meditate daily, take Lyrica and pain meds besides having the stimulator. Now i am not sure what is working and what isnt. Gut feeling is the Lyrica and pain meds are the key elements.

HELLO BETTY,
I HAVE A STIMULATOR, THE ONLY TIME IT HURTS ME IS WHEN I HAVE IT ON TOO LONG, AND MY DR. TOLD ME THAT I CAN GET THE BATTERY REMOVED AT ANYTIME. I HAVE HAD MINE A YEAR NOW, AND AT FIRST I HAD ISSUES, BUT I HAD TO LEARN HOW TO ADJUST IT ALSO. SO FAR IT'S WORKING FINE. BUT IT MIGHT BE AN ISSUE WITH YOUR INSURANCE , DEPENDING ON WHY YOU WANT IT OUT, MAYBE. I WAS TOLD TO JUST LET HIM KNOW AND HE WILL REMOVE IT.

How long do you have it on per day? I was told to wear it 24/7.

Get the battery pack and lead wires taken out. The leads can get wrapped around spinal cord.
