Removal of ovaries or not

Posted , 3 users are following.

I am a very healthy 44 year old, I have an underactive thyroid and am a bit overweight.

I recently had a partial hysterectormy were they left my overies in.  I was advised by my Gynie that they had detected cancer in my womb and suggested that I go to a specialist to discuss further treatment plan.

I went to see her last week and she indicated that I am very low risk for the cancer to come back - but would recommend that my ovaries should be removed to lower my risk of the cancer returning.  I have researched a lot and found a lot of ladies out there that are struggling with hormone replacement therapy as well as the long term side effects and the symptons of surgical menopause and feel that I should leave them in.  Can anyone advise

You are doing the right thing by researching all this.  Removng the ovaries is NOT easy.  For many women it completely destroys their well being.  While cancer is not something you want, I'm pretty sure you also don't want a life of feeling horrid day after day.

If it were me, I'd refuse the surgery, a s ovaries are providing you some hormones that keep things healthy and well.

HI I had my ovaries removed a year ago  for very similar reason.I went into surgical menopause and it was much harder than i could ever of imagined and all the research I done about it did not prepare me for how bad I felt. The sweats were constant,no sleep and the anxiety and depression left me barely able to function but that said not all women are that bad.

i have now gone on HRT and feel great, I have no regrets about my surgery now but the months after I wondered why I had done it,

I have peace of mind now as regards to ovarian cancer so for me it's been worth it.

Good luck with your desicion I know it's a difficult one to make.

Thanks for your reply - I am very nervous of the side effects of having them removed as well as the long term side effect of HRT.  I have read of so many women that have battled after having them removed.
