Removal of Syndesmotic Screw

Hi all,

Had a trimalleolar ankle fracture at the end of May and had ORIF surgery on June 1st. They placed 10 screws and a plate in my ankle. One of the screws is running through my ankle and was there to help stabilize the joint during recovery. Tomorrow, I have a second surgery where they will remove just that one screw (everything else is staying in there for now).

Has anyone had a second surgery to only remove one screw? What was the recovery like compared to the first surgery? How quickly were you back on your feet? And how soon did you start physical therapy afterwards?

I had 2 large screws removed, the other six or so remained. The operation was quite quick and I was able to walk the same day and there was very little pain or discomfort. Stitches dissolved and when the bandages were removed 2 weeks after the surgery, I had some physio. My ankle moved much better after the removal of big screws.
