Removed splint by myself, ankle unsteady

Hi. Tore my ankle ligaments 4 weeks ago. It has been in a splint for 3 weeks. I just removed the splint today as there were blisters that were unbearable. After removing the splint i placed my ankle in a moonboot. I am visiting the hospital tomorrow. Should i request a cast or use a moon boot. Ankle feels unsteady. Also should i start any exercises to restore range of motion yet? Any tips to speed up recovery at this stage? Swelling has gone down. Thanks..

    Shehzaad,

?Here is the thing my specialist told me about my torn ligaments and tendons. They are very tough to heal. It takes diligent's with your PT exercises. I"m not sure why you would remove your splint yourself. I would of let your doc do that. You should of gone into a brace or boot.

If your ankle feels unsteady you probably need repair and quickly. Don't play around. Nothing is going to speed up your recovery except getting the proper doctor (who knows what their doing) and following what they want you to do.

    Good luck!

    Shehzaad,

Please remember the Drs and surgeons have gone through countless hours of med school, fellowship training and residency to be who they are.

By removing your splint you are putting yourself in a position for further injury. I have torn ligaments with my displaced fracture. Yes, ligaments take much longer to heal. I have a long screw holding bones together while the ligaments are healing.

Let the doctors do their job. That's what you are paying them for
