Renal cancer?

Hi everyone!
My dad (65yrs) has always had back pain (has suffered with sciatica for as long as I can remember) but it has got much worse in the last two years. The GP reffered him for a CT scan which has picked up a solid mass on the lower pole of one of his kidneys, measuring 1.8cm. He has since has results back saying his has an enlarged prostate and enlarged lymph nodes. He has been a very heavy smoker for the majority of his life, although gave up about 4 years ago and 3 out of his siblings have had some form of cancer, as well as both of his parents (although none renal) so naturally he's thinking the worst
His Consultant arranged for him to go into hospital to have a biopsy done on Wednesday, but after 20 mins they sent him back saying that the mass was too small and difficult to get to and for him to wait and come back to try again in 6 months!! Obviously he is going out of his mind with worry - I've never seen him so anxious, he can't eat or sleep at all.
I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice or can relate to this at all? 6 months seems a very long time to wait if it is something nasty as obviously things will only progress and possibly spread.
Thanks for reading (my very long post! Sorry!) and thanks in advance for any comments.

Thanks so much for your reply my lovely.
A quick update - We fought for a 2nd opinion and they decided to take him in and operate to remove the mass. After a biopsy was done, thankfully, the results came back that it was benign!
I really, really have everything crossed that your Husband has the same outcome. My thought and best wishes are with you both x

Not sure if this helps but I wish you and yours all the best
After my initial symptoms ( passing blood in urine) i was referred within one week
I had a 100mm x 90mm growth on my left kidney so dad's growth is not
I had an ultrasound and it was picked up straight away. I also had a camera into my bladder (not as bad as it sounds). They diagnosed cancer on the spot.I was thn sent for a cat scan and operated on within 6 weeks. that was just over one year ago and I am recovering steadily. If your dad has been diagnosed with a growth on kidney ( I am no surgeon or have any medical knowledge apart from my own experience) If I was you I would speak to the medical team and voice

Try not to worry too much as my growth had been happily growing in me for 4 years without any symptoms. Always speak to your GP (mine was great) voicing any concerns in this very worrying time. Only thing I can say is due to the size of the tumor I had I was dealt with within 6 weeks of diagnosis and I am doing ok
I wish you all the very best and going by my experience i think your Dad has a great chance of a full recovery. Take care. Steve
