Renal pain

Hi everyone,

In late December I had a kidney infection, cutting a long story short I had an ultrasound which showed a stone.since then I have had continual pain, had a ct scan, an cystoscopy and tonight I ended up in the emergency room with the pain. This meant that I finally got all the results from all tests post ultrasound only to be told I don't have a stone or infection or for that matter anything but a possible fat deposit in the kidney.

I have a number of other health conditions including EDS and fibromyalgia and now I've been told that the fibromyalgia could be causing the continued pain. If that's the case then I could having this for ever or it could stop tomorrow. Has anyone experienced any or all of this before. Please help I feel like I'm losing my mind and the idea of living with this long term is incredibly depressing to me right now. Thanks for any help.

Hi Lisa... I'm sorry for your Agony ... I've been there myself. Can you give more description to your Pain? Is it Heavy - Stabbing - Feel like something is Swollen inside your Ribs?

    Is it on One Side?

Do you have any other issues that may not seem related? *like Pain in your Middle Back (center of your Spine to be exact) - Bra Underwrite suddenly feels like it's Destroying your Ribs? Straps digging into your shoulder? Shoulder feels almost dislocated?

I'm asking because your initial diagnosis of stones and the sudden onset of unrelenting Pain is how my own story began.

      Hi Amanda,

thanks for your reply. The position of the pain is front through to back and if you could draw a semi circle from under my ribs down to just above my pelvi/hip bone. It's only on my right side and began with very classic infection type pain. During treatment for the kidney infection I was woken in the night with the most excruciating waves of pain. It was so bad I couldn't even shout loud enough for my husband. I can only compare it to having labour contractions but in my side. This is when I was then sent for a ultrasound scan and I was told I probably passed a stone but there was one just at the base of my kidney and the top of the tube that leads to the bladder. I was also told there was some deformity where the stone was sitting. This is how I understood things to be until the pain kicked up again yesterday, there have been periods whereby the pain has settled a little so that it feels like a really bad toothache in my side. I've always been prone to uti's and kidney infections through my life, I'm 47, so I know what renal pain is like and I would have staked my life that this was another.

To be told today that there's now nothing there now and I may have to live with it I felt like a fraud but so depressed that I have no identifiable reason that could mean controlling this level of pain. Do you mind telling me what happened with you?

      Thanks again xx

Haha, I did wonder. Finally a diagnosis was quite an open subject. If you don't mind I will check it out tomorrow, it's 2.30am here in the UK and it's been a long day.

I really appreciate the help 😊

There is much evidence that an embedded stone, supposedly not moving can cause pain. Majority of doctors do not believe this. I have passed and caught over 70 stones and have had probably a 100 removed. Not alll of my stones were seen on the x-rays or scans. With my embedded stones, some cause me chronic pain and even though not passing through there is belief they shift slightly in the kidney causing pain. Search for a MD who specializes in kidney stones. Dont give up the fight!!
