Repair band op tomorrow!

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi everyone,

I'm having an operation tomorrow to repair my punctured leaking band (caused by a doctor!)

I have either bad hay fever or a cold and I'm worried they won't do the op because of this!

Please help

Oh no fingers crossed it goes ahead.

Can i ask how long youve been banded and how did you know you had a leak?

Thank you, I really hope so to!

      Banded last October.

This whole problem occurred when my band was too tight, my consultant had the day off so told me to go and see one of his colleagues, who didn't have a clue and was trying to release fluid from the band, but was stabbing me with needles in the wrong place and in turn has punctured and is leaking! The consultant actually ended up coming from home that day to do the procedure as the other doctor couldn't manage it!

I didn't realise anything was wrong at the time and I still am attending the clinic every 4 weeks for band fills.

Between the time that I saw the other doctor and the time I went to my usual man for my usual fill(!) I noticed that I could eat a lot more than usual and there was gradually less and less restriction, also I felt my stomach was fairly uncomfortable at times, and had a couple of twinges/tingly feelings.

I told the man I usually see, he tested to see how much fluid was in there and said that it had been punctured and was leaking and I would need another op!

Luckily it's only filled with sterile water! X

Well I had my op when I had a flu with temperature. I spent 7k wasn't going to let a flu get me down. I was dangerous but made it through. Have confident in your surgeon

Hi thanks for your message Mrs Humphrey!

It went ok, they removed and replaced everything except from the actual band round my stomach!

Felt a bit groggy afterwards as to be expected but not as much as usual as the op only took an hour and I come home in the evening which is very rare for me!

Only just woken up so in a fair bit of pain as haven't had any pain killers - but I'm on the case now!

Feels very similar to the other op but not probably not as bad! Luckily only 1 large incision that was reopened!

How are you getting on? Sorry I cannot remember whether you went for surgery in the end? X

Oh wow u must be getting excited!

It's the best thing I've ever done and even today in pain I don't regret it! As you can see from above it was a rare complication that this happened so early because of the circumstances!

Good luck with yours and if u need any advice please Just ask! X

Yes I was the same! I could lose the weight on all the crazy diets I've tried but it always went back on!

That sounds like a good pre op diet!

I had to do the following for 2 weeks -

6 pints of milk a day

      1 salty bovril drink

I sachet of sugar free jelly!

That was all I was allowed, it was tough but I managed to stick to it 100% because I wanted it so badly! Probably the only diet I have stuck to 100%! X
