Repeated gout flare-ups in a month

I recently had a sudden sharp pain one night in my big toe. There was inflammation and redness around the big toe joint. Since this was the first time I had experienced something of this sort, I contacted my general practitioner and he said that probably its gout. Then I was advised to take a blood test that confirmed that indeed my uric acid levels were slightly higher than normal. I was prescribed Colchicine and the pain, inflammation and redness subsided in about 4-5 days time. However, I still felt slight pain in my big toe and after 3 weeks, there was another flare up. This time the pain subsided in a day after taking colchicine and I was pain free in about a week's time. I have been working on improving my diet and been drinking about 2-3 litres of water everyday since a month now. However, after 2 weeks of my second flare up, I started feeling pain in my big toe again and it has gradually progressed to a gout flare up in about 3 days time. This time it is gradual and not like the sudden flare up like the first time. Is it possible that it might be something different than gout? Also repeated flare ups every 2-3 weeks even after complete resolve has started to worry me. I have talked to the doctor again and was told that this would still be treated as one gout episode rather than three.
