Repercussions from an old ankle injury

Posted , 5 users are following.

I suffered a massive injury to my right ankle back in 1995 which has lead to arthritis and constant pain. I am considering having it fused as part of my pain management but I wanted to know if anyone on here had experience with that type of operation. I am aware I am far too young to have it replaced so any advice would be appreciated.

I'm 7 weeks post op now in an aircast boot and crutches so I can now walk using both feet. non-weightbearing in plaster has been hard work and frustrating, but hopefully it will all be worth it. A friend has had both ankles fused (not at the same time!) and he encouraged me to have the op. He said he was pain free and he is very mobile. I has an injury which led to arthritis and got to the stage where the pain was bad and my mobility was getting poor. I felt it was the only option left.

if you go for the op try and do arm exercises to strengthen your arms before you use crutches

I had ankle fusion operation 11 days ago due to arthritis. I'm expecting a long recovery period before I get the other one done. I really didnt have any option as steroid injections were not much help. There were some odd strong pains on the 5th and 6th night after the op but now none.

All I can suggest is read all about it, talk to your consultant, and decide if you have any other options. I didn't.
