Restarting HRT

Posted , 8 users are following.

I was told to stop hrt two weeks prior to surgery to reduce risk of clots. I am now 3 weeks post op and some hot flashes are coming back. i want to restart, however, i use patches and need to alternate the siting of the patches which have to go on the thigh or buttock. right close to my scar anyone else had this issue? Did you just go for it or consult GP?

can you put it on the opposite side until the other side heals and call your gp nurse just to be safe.

congrats on your new shinny hip and to a great healing journey ahead. at three weeks is early yet and after 6 driving after about 12 weeks no walker and then until mobility comes easy again and no pain. i have had both hips replaced and very grateful for the mobility i have now compared to the pain before surgery!

    Hi Kay

I too had to stop HRT 4 weeks before my operation. whilst in hospital i ask when i could go back on it and was told i could start it the day after i left hospital . My GP asked me to go nto the patches but i am putting them on the unoperated hip. I would check with your GP to see what they advised.

    thanks

    Hi Kay

I'm only taking supplements and found the hot flushes coming in full force by week 2 post op, I was so glad to start taking them again. So I can understand you wanting to resume the patches.

I will be 3 weeks post op tomorrow, the op site is still tender so, I'd agree with Badger about consulting the GP or Community Nurses as to the placement.

May you find relief very soon!

Thanks all. i have restarted the patches. as you are supposed to swap sides when you do the mid week changover i started on non operative side, then placed second one on my bum, right round the back and away from the scarring and wound. will be fun trying to get the glue off when i remove it. You will know what i mean if you use them! THANKS ALL. Heres to no more flashes and other symptoms while i recover.
