Hi every one...
Does any one know what triggers restful legs at nite?
I’m 53 and been going through the menopause now for 4 yrs, the restless leg came on about 9 mth s ago, it drives me mad at nite, as I can feel it coming on as I start to fall asleep, then wham I’m awake again, my sleep is very poor, iv not seen my doc about this as not sure if due to the menopause ?? So was just sticking out to see if it gets better? Is there any thing that can help restless leg? Or is it best to see my doc?
It drives me total mad at nite, when I can feel it coming on I try to take my mind of it, but then your legs start, and most nites I have to get up and walk around .. crap..
any suggestion will be great, and if I’m stuck with it for life? Never had this b4 I went through menopause, any help out there, b4 I chop my own legs off 🤨 through being frustrated with it 🤗x

Hi Dawn, I doubt very much that it's the menopause that's brought this on. I'm a 70 year old male and I've had it for 11 years now. People have various methods of dealing with this, but there are approved drugs that your doctor can prescribe and they do work. I take pramipexole at around 7pm and it gets me through the night. Others on here take Magnesium Citrate. The problem in the Uk is that not all doctors take RLS seriously and they are just as likely to think that it stands for Royal Lifeboat Society.
Its a terrible thing to have if left untreated, so please discuss it with your doctor.

Hi thank you for getting back to me.. when it first started while I was at the doc decribe the feelings I get, but didn’t say any thing about it, or whether it was restleg, think it just got on my nervous that much that I read in to this, and it fitted me how I was doing, so not been back to see doc again, as I’m sure he just thinks it’s because I’m going through this menopause crap..
but now I know that more people have it then I throught, I’m going to go back and see if he will give me any thing, not sure if he will tho, I’m on a lot of meds and prob say it’s down to them🤨, that’s caursed it... it’s just so irritating and stops you falling asleep for hours lol.. but thank you any way 🤗x

I've had RLS for over 50 years. Began very intermittent in my early 20's. Muscle relaxant took care of it. Last 10-15 years it has gotten increasingly severe. From all I've heard, it progresses with age which seems to be my case. Don't think menopause has much to do as a trigger. This awful stuff can be hereditary, or just show up without a definite cause. Dr.'s are beginning to pay some attention rather than thinking it's all in one's head. Read as much as you can on meds, etc so you can go to your dr and TELL them what you want to try medically, etc. There are numerous meds that can work and many that augment. My Requip seems to be augmenting now so I'm switching away from it for a few weeks. Have done this before and then it kicks back in. Meds, muscle relaxants (Robaxin is what I've been on for years and it really helps) and Narco (pain med). I take scalding hot showers on my legs when they just won't stop jumping and aching. I've seen people have success with super cold water. I've begun using microwave heating pads on my aching legs and feet and that also seems to help. But some kind of meds are vital to be taking. Just be aware and monitor yourself for any side affects. Don't let your doctor blow you off. That's why I say get all the info you can to arm yourself and insist on treatment. I go in and tell my doctor what I need and what's going on as this is a disease many aren't fully aware of yet. One last thing. See a neurologist as this IS a neurological problem. Present thinking is some problem with dopemine production in the brain.
