Restless leg syndrome tips

When I was pregnant I suffered with RLS every night which is horrible as its when you're most tired and really need to relax.

I found the iron supplements floradix or spatone helped over time but for fast relief soaking my feet in a bowl of really hot water helped a lot , I mean as hot as you can stand it and keep topping up with hot water as it cools. The heat really relaxed my joints and muscles and really did stop the horrible crawling , tingling feeling. Also a hot water bottle between my feet at night in bed  really stopped the movements in my feet/ legs .

Hope this helps

I have tried everything but the night time pain was horrendous. My doctor has now put me on Parkinson's medication and its stopped all the night time pain.

I use cold water when I am woken in the night with it. I fill the bathroom sink and put my foot in the water. I let it run for a while to get it really cold, lift my foot up and spladh the cold water on up to my knee. I do this on both legs, I then lift my leg right up bend my knee and put my knee in the sink. Even at 68 I can still do this. I can then get back into bed and fall asleep. I do top up my iron with supplements every couple of weeks too.

When meds just aren't working I get in the hottest shower possible and direct the water on my legs, especially the parts that are hurting or jumpie and won't stop.  I almost scald my legs but I find that about 5 minutes of the extreme heat plus the pain and other meds can finally get things under control.  Have done this at all hours when nothing else works.  I have a hand spray nozzle that I can direct the water right to my legs and feet.

2 most effective things for me, soaking in a hot bath and using a bean bag as follows:  I make my bean bags with flannel and the cover with fleece.  8 inches by 20 inches, fill with approximately 6 cups of winter red hard wheat berries (so when laying flat about 1 inch high).  Heat in microwave for 2-3 minutes, take out and move around to mix wheat berries, and heat another 2-3 minutes.  Lie in bed face down with rear end up (looking cute:-), and bag at back of knees, between both legs, touching thighs and calfs.  Instant relief.  The wheat berries will stay warm for up to 30 minutes. Adjust legs to what is comfortable over time.
