Restless legs since THR

Ever since my THR - 4 weeks ago - I’ve had that horrible creepy crawley restless legs sensation. It starts about the same time every evening and it’s doing my head in.  My GP has been amazing and has prescribed Ropinirole (which fortunately works smile but just wondering if anyone else is suffering with this since their hip operation and what do you think causes these very unpleasant sensations?

I am sorry that THR is full of many annoying issues. There seems to be so many adjustments as we go thru the healing process that can always pop up.Painful restless legs is also a issuer I had while recovering from THR. I used spray magnesium on my legs and rub in ,helped so much. Or take magnesium supplement. Also pickle juice is used for cramps in legs.

Hi Hope, no I don’t get any pain at all with this syndrome. It’s completely painless for me, just a need to keep moving my darned legs. It’s like twitch tickle but not a nice feeling, Hahaha I think I will give up trying to explain away a not very nice twitch smile smile

Yes right it like you can't stop moving our legs. Have you tried any thing to help. I find that megnesium taken before bed help with the restless legs. Try it and see if it helps. Usually magnesium supplements are handy if you have them around. If not then pickle juice really helps with RLS.

Yes, many of us go through a lot of odd issues like this.  Luckily for me, mine just seemed to go away on it's own.

Restless creepy crawley and itchy legs, 'concrete leg', aches & pains in thigh leg and buttock, dropped or skewed foot, and of course the terrible problem of trying to get some sleep on our backs - sadly are all to be expected sad but hopefully not all experienced.

Sarah,, omg,, I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one,, but sorry you are going through the restless leg syndrome,, I have the same feeling,, and at the same time every evening, it feels horrible and I can’t sleep,, I asked my doctor about it he prescribed a muscle relaxer called flexerile , but said it would help to get a set of physical therapy peddles that you set on the floor and peddle as long as I can before bed,, don’t know if it will help yet,, don’t really have the money for anything right now, he said I could find them for 40.00 on Amazon or eBay,, I didn’t have this syndrome with my left THP 2 years ago but having my right one done is a different story,,restless leg syndrome is driving me crazy,, good luck hope it goes away soon for you as well as myself,,,

Hi Sarah, sorry to hear that your getting this problem. I suffer from RLS anyway and I take prescribed Pramipexole every evening - see my earlier post about it. I'm now on day 8 post LTHR and after 5 days had no RLS symptoms. I thought a miracle had happened and the RLS had gone away, but then on day 6 that old familiar feeling returned! So it's back to the drawing board - I haven't come across anything other than drugs that will keep this at bay. I know people have suggested various things they do - you'd be surprised at some of them - but they don't work for me.

It's the worse sensation ever, I had to go back into

hospital for over two weeks and nothing was prescribed for me regarding this hence many sleepless nights which really doesn't help your overall recuperation.

What did they do for you in the hospital?

Sometims legs pumpnwraps help. I purchased them from amazon. Similar to the air pumps wrapped around the leg after hip surgery in hospital to prevent blood clots.

    Hi Sarah

There are plenty of certified drugs for RLS that could have got you through the night. I'm amazed that the hospital let you suffer like that.

I had the same for a month or two, it will pass, I just spent a lot of time walking around at night. There are worse things, just dont focus too much on it, it will go away once you get more mobile
