Restrictions after surgery

Hi,

I'm having left hip replacement on 27th of this month and had my pre operation assessment today . The nurse was talking about not sitting in a low chair ...I have a recliner sofa which I'm hoping is going to be ok as it's so comfortable. I wouldn't want to sit on one of my dinning chairs for 6 weeks ...can I have some feedback please ....I'm in the UK

I had ONE chair raiser provided by the NHS, so used that on a comfy chair.

For dining, my wife came up with an old office chair so I could get to/from the table easily.

Best of all, I made my own base for my recliner chair. It is necessary as a standard recliner is far too low and you risk a very painful dislocation.

For pictures of all these, and my wife's amazing trolley for all my bits and pieces see my website, the address is in my personal info here ...

Hi Pennypops, I added a special seat cushion to my dining room chair and 11 months post op I still prefer to sit up straight at my dining table as compared to sitting on a couch or recliner...much more comfortable for me but everyone is different.

Do you have a form to fill in about furniture height, toilet etc? I’m in the UK, a company came and fitted toilet seats, and raised up our bed and sofa.  Also had a perching chair, handy for sitting at the table. (And also in the garden!)

     Good luck!

Hi , I had my thr in Feb last year I too have a really comfy recliner chair , my hubby just put some 3x2 timber on the bottom like a square frame. I couldn't really use the recline to start with due to the angle of your hip. My husband wants to take it off but it's much easier and I don't want it off. If your chair can't be raised the Red Cross will loan you a higher armchair .
