results from elevated wbc

well after 8yrs of an elevated wbc rangeing from 13 upto 17 in all those yrs went to see a haemotologist today and she told me it's nothing to sinistar only thing that has raised it is my smoking asi have been really stressed the last yr or 2 i have smoked more 20-25 a day i have been smoking since 13 am now 54 how are i supposed to cut down or quit after all this time i do not drink so it's my little pleasure in life i have to go back in january to get tested again (blood test) if it has not gone down i will have to have a bone marrow biopsy so it's down to me to cut down or quit has anyone had raised wbc through smoking
