Retinal Detachment Surgery Recovery

Hello: Last Wednesday, I had retinal detachment surgery under general anesthesia. A scleral buckle was part of the procedure. In 2012, I had retinal detacment surgery in the other eye that was under local anesthesia and didn't include the scleral buckle. It is a week on, and my eye is still swollen, blood red and painful. I wake up with my eye sticking shut from discharge. It feels like this recovery is longer and that not much progress has been made. Of course, I have the gas bubble and can see very little out of the affected eye. Has anyone had a similar experience? Should I be further along at this point?

my heart goes out to you... i had a vitrectomy last April (now need cataract surgery on that eye) and this very afternoon my good eye developed a tear and I had to have emergency laser repair. ugh! My eye is red, scratching, and so very sore. Asking surgeons questions only leads to confusing or vague answers and this is all so frightening! Recovering from a vitrectomy is a long emotional journey. A lonely one at that. I did not have the buckle.. So I don’t know if that makes it all more painful. You, of course, should contact your surgeon. I think your symptoms warrant a follow-up check. Hang in there... the bubble is the worse. Mine lasted seven weeks. Are you doing face down positioning? sorry for rambling... its hard to see aaack!
