Returning to work

I am 6weeks post op and was wondering how long people stay off work for, I am a teaching assistant with 5year olds so on my feet all day either in classroom or playground or dinner hall. My teacher said she thought i would be back by 6 weeks but I have not had my review appt yet so told her it would be another couple of weeks at least. I know physically I could not stand all day, my leg still gets stiff uncomfortable as day goes on and i am still really tired due to not sleeping well. Know everyone recovers at different rates but just looking any other opinions/ advice. Thank you xsmile

Hi to everyone who gave me advice about going back to work. I saw my head today and class teacher and gave them another sick line for 4 weeks, said was looking forward to coming back (mmmm am i really!!) Just was sooo nice and said sorry no way I could stand all day etc and I was not sleeping all night (which is true) but was asked really?  This has put me off wanting to go back! Might ask for another line to take me up to near school breaking up for summer and go back for 1 week!!!

But thank you all agin for all your help and advice, really means a lot people who know what we have all been through helping each other out.

As for sleeping the dr put me back on the tablet I took before surgery to help with pain and sleep at night and hopefully with that and sueisobel's advice i will sleep tonight!!  Thank you all xxx smile

Good luck and enjoy the extra time off.  Hopefully by then you will feel that you are more able to cope with the monsters. Ignore the "oh really" people. They would be the first to scream if they were in pain.

Good for you ! You have definately done the right thing and if your not right then do get another note. People dont realise how invasive this surgery is and how many tendons and muscles there are to heal! You must take care! All the best!
