My band is coming out can no longer live like this is there anyone who has had band removed and gone on to lose weight or had a by pass after my 9 year band disaster I want to be sure I'm doing the right thing . I did loads off research before I had my band and as that has been a massive fail I really want to be sure before I put me, my body and my poor family through anymore so please any advice would be appreciated

I had my band removed but it had slipped and started to corrode my stomach I had lost 9 stone with the band in just over a year. I have had a bypass since and it's been great. However I have gone slightly the other way and I'm now slightly underweight (never thought I'd hear myself say that). So if that's the route you decide then just make sure you eat little and often.

I am one off the unlucky 5% that the band didn't work for , although to start with I followed all the instructions and did loose some weight it wasn't long before  I was getting food stuck and being sick. I'm the first to admit that some off the problems are mine psychology but I now live on junk I'm probably the unhealthiest fat person there is crisps and biscuits are the only thing I'm not sick on, everything else is Russian roulette some weeks I can eat the odd meal other weeks nothing but then half the time I'm expecting to be sick! I've had a barium swallow and all is fine with band but I can't live with this constant sickness ,family meals, outings , barbecues anything involving food is a minefield

Hi Deb, im also in that 5% of band failures, i had mine done privately in july 2008 and it was never right, either to tight, or to loose, constantly being sick or getting things stuck, i had severe acid reflux, i did lose 5stone, but mine was removed in nov 2011 as an emergency because it had slipped and i couldnt even tolerate water...ive since put the weight back on, and have just been approved for bariatric surgery, just waiting on a date, i can honestly say it was the worst time of my life when i had my band, and my poor family went through hell watching me too....good luck with what descision you choose. Hiya, no problem, fingers crossed you get yr bypass at the same time as removal,  but i wonder if they will want yr stomach to settle before diving right back in and stressing it more, ive been at the hospital today for pre op assesment, bloods ecg and final group session, i start my pre op diet on 14th april and my surgery is on 28th april.... Its still a nerve wracking time, but i need this too...
