Revision of bad hip replacement

Posted , 8 users are following.

Some of you have been following me with my hip replacement woes.

It has just occured to me this morning rather than re-doing the hip, can they cut the 10mm out of my femur closer too my knee and below the steel spike of the prothesis.

Straight foward carpentry really, then they would only have the leg muscles rather than the hip and buttock muscles to tighten up with physio, and no or very little chance of dis-location, that is a high risk if they now try to shorten the leg at the hip joint, all of the muscles and tendons have ben stretched.

Just a thought, might run it past the specialist, he can only laugh at me.

That's an interesting idea, Lyn. If I were you, I would definitely bring it up to the specialist. I don't know the mechanics of whether it would work or not, but the specialist will know. At the worst, he will give you the reasons why it wouldn't.  Anything has got to be better than going through the whole hip thing again. Really.

    Hi Lyn:

I do know that there is or was a procedure for lengthening a short leg.  The leg was broken by the surgeon, and then, as I recall splinted, and the bones stretched slightly so that new bone would form, and then further stretching was done, and further new bone formed, and so on, until the correct length was formed.  This procedure was done below the knee.

So, I would think that this may be a possibility.  However, I am no expert.  It will be interesting to know the outcome.

Good luck, I hoope that there is nother option open for you.
