Wondering what symptoms you are experiencing that are leading up to your revision?

It is 18 months since my THR and I have a very bad limp and must use a cane. Dr says all is fine and does not want to hear about revision surgery.

    Hi Amanda

I had where the first surgeon put in the wrong size of ball in it was to small so I was sent to a specialist who does revisions and I had to have my femur grafted and screws and wire put in and the surgeon put in a bigger ball because I would have kept having my hip dislocate it dislocated 3 times before the revision and its the worse pain a person can experience. they had to give some meds that I wouldnt remember them working to get my hip in it was the medication that Micheal Jackson died from the specialist told me that once my left needs a revision he will have to switch everything out.because the way my right hip is angled so he will have to angle the left the same way or my left hip would dislocate too

Hi ya I'm having my hip redone this Friday its in at an angle too causing additional leg length. They will remove it and cut a little of my leg bone to move it done an inch. Currently my back feels out my hamstring is pulled and my limp is massive. Its in at an angle because on the day they had to put in a larger ball than expected but didn't put the stem in far enough through fear of fracture. Been told its twice as long procedure but I'm hopeful to recover better this time. Good luck with yours

Similar to mine I'm afraid - my socket wasn't at an ideal angle, but worse, the ceramic socket was totally misplaced and jammed. When I had revision a few weeks later they were unable to move it. As someone once said, I must have had a Muppet for a surgeon.

The ceramic broke last year, and I had a fantastic surgeon at a different hospital do it for me. He 'Explanted' the titanium cup (cut it away from the pelvis), and put a new one in, which is now sitting at a much better angle. Explanting is the opposite of Implanting by the way.

I had a fantastically short recovery this time, I never thought it would make so much difference, but it has been wonderful. I was climbing stairs with the physios at 40 hours post-op, and back at the gym and playing golf a couple of weeks later.

So answering your question, it was a much shorter recovery for me!
