REZUM--HAVE YOU HAD THIS DONE???????

I had a nice conversation today with the President of the "Urology Times". He was telling me that there is a "New Procedure" that has been approved called the "REZUM SYSTEM". The company that makes the system is called "NXThera, Inc". You can google them up and lots of stuff comes up. I called them for a referral and they gave me a Doctor in Minnepolis that has done it over 50 times now. I called his nurse and she said he would call me back and answer my questions on monday. As you guys probably know Doctors are not very good at returning calls but we'll see what happens. Iam not very good at explaining how the procedure works but basically they take the device and put it up the uretha and vaporize the prostate cells which kills them. It works with high pressure "steam" that at a certain degree will kill the prostate tissue. My question for you guys is there anybody out there that has had it done to them and how are you getting along and are there "side effects", etc etc?????

Hello Chuck:
I had this procedure done roughly 1 and a half years ago locally in San Antonio, Texas by a doctor who is supposed to be one of the top urologists here in Texas. Reason for the procedure is I had a continuous enlarged prostate and needed to do something about it. Here's what happened..
1. Doctor did the procedure and for me it was an extremely painful procedure. Some people have said it's not and I like to think of myself as someone who can man up and tough it out. Not in this case. All kinds of foul language out of my mouth.
2. Wore a catheter for 4 days and it was removed and I was able to urinate on my own in the morning but had to go to an ER because I was not able to urinate on my own later that evening.
3. ER people installed another catheter that I wore for about a week. After it was removed, I could urinate on my own but the urgency to urinate was sudden so I found myself running to the bathroom several times.
4. Also after the catheter was removed the second time, I had to self catheter occasionally (mostly at night) for about 5 days using the flexible type catheters that you insert yourself. Not fun and more of a psychological thing than anything else.
5. The doctor told me in my initial consultation that I would still be able to have normal sexual functions. Not true as I can not have any children and it is painful to have sex.
6. I no longer have problems with my prostate. Problem is I still have to use the restroom before I go to bed and generally have to urinate twice a night. In that sense nothing has changed. My prostate is not enlarged but go figure.
7. I came away from this a little disappointed as my urologist informed me I was about the 24th person he had performed this procedure on and the first to have to use a catheter a second time.
Good luck,
Jerry

I recommend patients have sedation as it is uncomfortable.
Your nocturnal is unlikely related to your prostate- would have that evaluated and other issues ruled out (diabetes, sleep apnea, heart disease, etc )

Jerry who was your surgeon? I had REZUM done 4 months ago and nothing but complications since. I also waa done in San Antonio. I'm in the hospital right now because I'm in so much pain I can't bear it. This is two weeks post stone removal I developed from the surgery.

Are you saying that you had retrograde ejaculation (dry orgasms) after the Rezum procedure? If so, you wouldn't be the first here that reported that.
I agree with JerseyDoc that your noctturia (getting up at night) may not be prostate related. You can start to figure that out fairly easily yourself with a 24 hour void log. If over 40% of your urine output is overnight, then probably not prostate related. Unfortunately, too many urologists fail to mention this prior to surgery, letting the patient believe that their nocturia might be cured with an operation or procedure, without any further testing.

A computer program looks for links and/or certain word combinations/symbols or repetitions that are common with spam. It should be out of moderation in a day or so when a human looks at it. Happened to me a few times. Trust me, you don't want all the spam a site like this can generate.

Yes, they are dry orgasms, didn't know that's what they were called, after the rezum procedure.
Thought this would cure my having to get up late at night but things are back to were they were before the surgery.

Is he part of the San Antonio urology center? My Dr. Was Kyle Weld. And I developed a horrible UTI that took a month to go away and then the stone I just had removed. I'm in pain in my rectal area but tonight I went to the doc and they did a CT and said everything looked normal. Can't figure this out. Now I just had the surgery 15 days ago, and the stone I had removed was stuck in my prostatic urethra. It was the size of a quarter. It was grinding away on me for most likely two months. I had the surgery done 5 Oct. I can pee great now, I just am dealing with this pain. I have no idea what it could be, but they told me to follow up with urology. Do you live in SA?

I get up less than I did, two times per night the last few nights. I have retrograde as well. Have you tried collecting your urine to see if there is anything after you have an orgasm? I have and I can see it slightly cloudy, with small clear globule like things. Before I had NOTHING coming out but with the stone that's not shocking. I am hoping this will go back to normal but it might not. As long as I don't have pain, I'm resolved to living with retrograde orgasm. But I'm not out of the woods yet.

Dr. Kella has his own office. He is not part of any group. Yes, my urine is cloudy and bubbly. Never had any problems with stones. I'm in good physical shape overall.
Not trying to criticize Dr. Kella. My reaction to the rezum procedure has probably happened to others.

Yes, its a small percentage and really don't have idea what causes it. I was told the ejaculate takes the path of least resistance but to me this would seem fixable with lots of kegels. Have you tried? I will be back in the urology center hopefully this week. I'm not sure why it hurts to much in my backside.

Retrograde orgasm from Rezum seems to be running around 10% from what we see and hear here from both patients and some doctors. But again, getting up at night may not be related to your prostate at all. Do a 24 hour void log and write down the time and amount of each void. If over 40% of your void volume is overnight, then getting up at night may not be a prostate issue and the Rezum wouldn't have helped nor in fact any other prostate reduction procedure.

Hey Jerry, in what way is intercourse painful? I have aches afterward as well but I'm assuming my discomfort is because of all the crap I've been through. The wife and I are abstaining for another month at least. It hasn't been long enough yet.

I am sorry to hear that Jerry. You finely pick a procedure and they it don'r work and you have side effect. I hope things will work out for you and get better in time God Bless Ken

The Rezum procedure seam to block the duct's because they put the steam to close to them. The steam will block the opening because it can't tell the difference. It's becoming a game like Russian Roulette. I like to gamble but not with my body Good luck Ken

Yup. Happens frequently. The modulators' job, one would expect, is to facilitate appropriate conversation and information exchange, but frequently, they simply get in the was of those goals.
