REZUM--HAVE YOU HAD THIS DONE???????
Posted , 385 users are following.
I had a nice conversation today with the President of the "Urology Times". He was telling me that there is a "New Procedure" that has been approved called the "REZUM SYSTEM". The company that makes the system is called "NXThera, Inc". You can google them up and lots of stuff comes up. I called them for a referral and they gave me a Doctor in Minnepolis that has done it over 50 times now. I called his nurse and she said he would call me back and answer my questions on monday. As you guys probably know Doctors are not very good at returning calls but we'll see what happens. Iam not very good at explaining how the procedure works but basically they take the device and put it up the uretha and vaporize the prostate cells which kills them. It works with high pressure "steam" that at a certain degree will kill the prostate tissue. My question for you guys is there anybody out there that has had it done to them and how are you getting along and are there "side effects", etc etc?????

Just arrange a visit with a surgeon that specializes in HoLEP and be don with it!

Hey James
If that is what you have decided to do great. But see if you can talk with some of his patients that he has all ready done and also fined out how he is going to do it. Make sure you ask questions. There have been a few on here that one surgeon took half of the prostate and the other cored out the prostate and left the shell. That is how I thought it was done
Good luck to you. Ken

5 week post resum update: Flow at night is better than it has been in the last couple years. In and out in less than a minute. The only problem is still having to get up twice, once if im lucky. When I had the Foley night bag, it would fill with 1500ml, Any way to avoid this ? I guess the answer is compression socks and less liquid in the afternoon/evening?

Jan 7 Rezum, Jan 16 Foley removed and had first night without Foley. No problems to report.
I believe longer Foley duration to help healing is one of the keys for quick and trouble free recovery specially after some of the experiences i read in this forum .
I think we need more data and experiences of people wearing a Foley and how to best function with it as, if living longer with a Foley is easier than it will help people to heal better before it is removed and may help get rid of ER visits etc. Some of the experiences like: where is the optimal position for Catheter stabilization device, how much slack needed on the tube between Foley and the bag, what is the best way to route the tube to the beg, medium vs large vs night bag usage etc. Maybe these have been covered before , I don't know. Although it was not the most comfortable, I thought I functioned ok with Foley including going to see a play and out to dinner etc.
So my Foley buddy(!) was removed yesterday morning with no issues after they pumped and measure the water intake to the bladder and 100 % was voided and 0 residual in the bladder.
Flow starts quicker after a couple of drops of pink , no burning or pain and about the same flow rate from before (maybe slightly better ) but steady stream without start and stop.
I got up 3 times as before so no change in frequency so far but a little quicker. (and yes, it is amazing how much urine i also experienced on the Foley bag; nightly 1.5-2.0 liters.)
I also got carried away last night as small celebration for reaching a milestone without issues and had a couple of cocktails and don't know how that played into it. I also am having a couple of cups of coffee as I write this e-mail and keep going to void but no urgency. I am drinking more water to flush.
That's all I have so far and I think so far is so good. Next milestone is Jan 29th when I see my urologist for post op. I will report earlier if I have issues before than.

mark,
please let us know how your doing in 2 -3 days. i had my foley removed (after 4 days) and voided almost all liquid they pumped in, however the next few days were tough.
i am above where i was prior to going in but today my first morning pee was much stronger and a little longer. hopefully things will keep improving.

Mark,
.
I lived with Foleys for 18 months while waiting for Medicare to pay for Rezum. Each month, I returned to my Uro for a new Foley, leg bag, night bag and a plug. Loved the night bag, I could sleep all night.
.
My Uro learned to keep the Foley in for 2 weeks after Rezum procedure to prevent ER trips for her patients. Now a standard procedure for her patients.
.
Glad you don't have to deal with PVR like I have to deal with.
.
A lot of posters here had problems when their Uro removed the Foley in less that 2 weeks after their Rezum.
.
Best Wishes
.

Same here. I Passed the Foley removal test with no issues. The following night is when I had all hell broke loose. Also, blood didnt start until about 5 days after Foley removal. Sounds like your doing good Mark. We're all different.

Just to second Al's comment as we had the same urologist and had our Foleys in for 2 weeks post Rezum. I am inclined to say that having the Foley in for 2 weeks is a good procedure and maybe it should be a standard.
.
Since I had my Rezum done the same day as Changejobs, I am now at 7 weeks and continuing to improve. My streams are getting better and my PVR is slowly dropping from 270 ml a month ago to 215 ml today.
.
Some days, I have setbacks where my streams are weaker and my PVR is a little higher, but then the next day I am better and the overall pattern is for improvement. Has anyone encountered this too?
.
I made some yellow snow backcountry skiing last Sunday and hope to do the same again tomorrow. Oh, the little joys in life...

Now that i learned about your experiences after Foley, I have my guard up with my catheters in hand and let's see what happens.
Is there anything I can do?

I didn't have any the first week ( during Christmas holidays), so I was worried about total retention, but you are prepared, so you should be good.

steven,
its great that your pvr is omproving. im curious what mine is, however id have to either go back to my local uro or do cic(which id rather not do as its reallypainful for me).
im going to continue to monitor and wait another month or 2 before i go to uro to see PVR.

4 days after Foley was removed , I was about to report no problems .
Unfortunately though I have been getting up to pee almost every 2 hours last night (from the usual 2-3) .
Till this morning a couple of pinkish/brownish blood drops proceed the pee.
This morning the blood stopped but I am going to bathroom every hour and started stop-start and what was stronger flow is no more. It does not feel I have a UTI as I tested with the strips with negative result but will test later again.
I don't know if it is a matter of what spicy food i had last night with some wine or just the way the cycle goes. It will be 2 weeks tomorrow since my procedure and hoping just a bump on the road as I read 6 weeks or more is when better results come in.

FWIW, my worst weeks were 2 and 3 weeks after. Started getting better in week 4 and showing improvement in 5. My night flow is almost as good as day, which hasn't been the case for years, but I still have to go 2-3 times at night.
You may want to use a catheter just to make sure you are not blocked by something and empty your bladder, just a thought.

Just to 2nd Tim's post that weeks 2 and 3 were the worst and I started getting better at week 4. Also the bleeding stopped at week 4.
.
Since week 6, the improvements appear to be accelerating. In the last few days, my PVR's have dropped below 200 ml and today, they were below 150 ml. My flows are getting better too.
.
Also, today and 2 days ago, there was a big clot (almost a half inch long) of dead tissue in my pee. Has anyone experienced this too?
.

I peed a lot of dead tissue in weeks 2-4, but when the bleeding stopped at the end of week 4, so did the dead tissue. Now my urine is clear.

steven,
blood in my urine has stopped. there was a little in my semen still. my flow the last fe morning has been stronger. i still nee to do a second pee a few minutes later but there is improvement. it takes one day at a time.
i have not seen blood clots but i do think in the past there was some tissue. Im actually hoping to see some dead tissue as im sure that would be helpful.
