REZUM--HAVE YOU HAD THIS DONE???????

Posted , 385 users are following.

I had a nice conversation today with the President of the "Urology Times". He was telling me that there is a "New Procedure" that has been approved called the "REZUM SYSTEM".  The company that makes the system is called "NXThera, Inc".  You can google them up and lots of stuff comes up.  I called them for a referral and they gave me a Doctor in Minnepolis that has done it over 50 times now.  I called his nurse and she said he would call me back and answer my questions on monday.  As you guys probably know Doctors are not very good at returning calls but we'll see what happens.  Iam not very good at explaining how the procedure works but basically they take the device and put it up the uretha and vaporize the prostate cells which kills them.  It works with high pressure "steam" that at a certain degree will kill the prostate tissue.  My question for you guys is there anybody out there that has had it done to them and how are you getting along and are there "side effects", etc etc?????

I had Rezum done on Nov 21 2022. Just thought I would share some info. The procedure went well. I have had 5 back surgery's and a neck fusion. So being naked is no big deal to me. The nurses and doctors see it every day. I have had many scopes. The catheter was in for 4 days. No big problem's. The last day on the catheter I had some problems with the pee coming out around the tube. Never did figure that out. As far as sex everything is the same as before. Did have blood the first couple of times. As far a peeing it maybe has been a little worse as far as urgency . Yesterday I did have blood clots a few times. Forgot to say my prostate was 42 and I had 3 injections. They did sting, but was no problem. I was fully awake and just had the numbing stuff in both ends. Injections threw the anus and the penis. As of now everything is going as planed. After having several dental inplants and all my other dental stuff , this was no big deal. Hope it works as planed.

I posted here 6 days ago that Rezum has left me impotent. I have found relief using an FDA Approved Erectile dysfunction pump. The moderator deleted the post so I assume either they have interest in promoting Rezum or just don't like FDA Approved alternatives to surgery such as a penile implant. Either way, if they delete ANY information designed to be helpful that they don't like, I have no more use for this site. This is my last post. Hope you all do better than I did.

Is it true this site does not like any negative report about the treatments? No wonder we rarely see negative reports on the procedure etc. This is not a good practice.

I had the Rezum procedure five days ago. It has not been a pleasant experience. I have a catheter in and every time I get an urge to urinate, it squirts out from where the catheter enters my penis and is painful for around 30 seconds. I have pads and paper towels inside my underwear, but the urine seems to run down the catheter tube and down my leg. I'm constantly changing pants and underwear. I was supposed to have the catheter removed after 7 days, but I asked to move it up a day in case I'm unable to urinate and need to go to an ER. I've called the urologist's office twice and they prescribed oxybutynin chloride 5 mg to try to relieve these spasms. There may have been a slight benefit, but they wanted me to stop taking it two days before having the catheter removed.

I'll report back later in the week on my progress.

It has been 2 months since my Rezum procedure. I have an appointment with the urologist this week. I'm trying to decide if I should keep the appointment. After a miserable week with the catheter (see above), I don't see noticeable improvement. I'm expecting to hear that he can do the procedure again, or it didn't work because my prostate is too large. My health system/health insurance does not cover any other procedure other than the TURP.

yes i had it done several months ago.the procedure was simple and quick, with light anesthesia

i left after a few hours . the catheter was 4 days of hell. then things started improving gradually and after several months i rarely wake up to urinate.

However ... i have trouble emptying the last 10 percent of my bladder as i need to tug on my penis outward or upward manually to be able to empty to a satisfactory degree.

More seriously i started getting both delayed ejaculation and worse of all ... retrograde ejaculation on top ie no semen comes out only pre ejaculate transparent mucoid liquid . ie dry orgasm . i am extremely frustrated and wish i had waited for uro lift procedure instead of this permanent punishment !!!

I had the Rezum procedure 4 days ago. I am 60 and had dealt with enlargement issues for the last 10 years. Was to the point of taking two Flomax pills a day.

I still have the Foley catheter in place and expect to have it in for another three days. I’ve had slight bleeding around the catheter at the tip of the penis. The doctor said that he did for steam injections. I could sense the swelling of my prostate the first three days and this fourth day that seems to be relaxed. I am hoping for the best when the catheter is taken out.

I have my ninety days after surgery check up tomorrow. I am urinating more often now than before the surgery. In addition to no urinary pressure I no longer have any ejaculation pressure either. I also can't keep an erection as long as before and it's harder to get one. Also it seems like the inside of the penis head is a little numb.

I had rezum over 4 months ago and ended up with retrograde ejaculation and believe there is a high percentage of people that get it with the steam surgery. I specifically stayed away from the laser for this reason i would not recomend it and was not warned about this side effect. I may be stuck the rest of my life with this side effect and it is no fun.

Hi all and thank you for sharing your experiences; it doesn't look like there's been much activity on this forum for awhile but I do appreciate your insights and hoping for more sharing if you have time.

I'm 60 years old, from Canada and I too just had the Rezum procedure on November 20, 2023. Next day I landed in Emerg twice for blocked catheter; first time I was just drained; then second time (2 hours after first) I was drained then flushed out and was advised lots of tissue was removed. There were no issues after that and my catheter was removed on day 5. I have not had any blockages since then.

I'm just coming to the end of week 5. Based on what I've read in this forum it appears I may be heading into the time period where I may be experiencing more heavier bleeding and more tissue removal and feeling a tad anxious. I did ask my doc after the procedure if I needed to learn how to self cath to which he replied 'was not necessary'. as he felt my urethra was large enough to pass the material on my own. Based on what I've read here I'm thinking it may be a good idea. I did learn how to do it (Youtube) now and I purchased some straight cathetors just in case. Better to be prepared than to wait in line in Emerg once again (first time 2 hours....second 9 hours and I left! However I was drained first and they wanted me to wait to see a doctor but didn't see the point); the doc who did the procedure was not available to assist so had to go to Emerg (I paid out of pocket and not covered by health care here; the others are). Once my catheter was removed I was booked for another appointment 4 months later....in March 2024! No check in no nothing; not impressed!

My bleeding when I initially pee (initial start) then it turns clear appears to finally be easing up; burning start and end comes and goes. My urine is clear so I don't think I have an infection; I think it's likely irritation from the foley. The 'things to watch for post surgery' information given to me was very scarce and vague; therefore found this forum to which I have been grateful.

As one comment mentioned "I regretted this procedure for 1-3 weeks then things improved"; I'm hoping for the same as so far it has not been a great experience and starting to have some regrets myself based on my experience. At this point in time I feel like my ease with peeing is about the same as before the procedure; I guess I expected better by now?

I'm hoping for some uplifting 'updates' from the group to keep me going as it's been a isolating experience so far with next to no support unfortunately.

Is there anyone out there who had it recently? Any Canadians on this forum?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi all. I originally posted about four years ago (see page 19). Rezum worked OK for me but I did have retrograde ejaculation. I will agree with others on the forum - I think that is very common - more than they admit in the literature.

Just this last December I went back in for a "cleanup" Rezum treatment. There was some growth up toward my bladder that was starting to cause me some issues - so since i had met deductible I had the "cleanup" done. The retrograde ejaculation lessended somewhat, however the horrible thing that did happen is I have been left with ED. I had one erection the Tuesday the week following my procedure - about 9 days later depending on how you count the days. Then I had one more erection about a week later. That was the last time I have add an erection. The best I get is about 50% and that is on rare occasion. I no longer have nocturnal or morning erections. I mentioned this to the Dr and she didn't seem that concerned. I have started using a penis pump to keep it going in hopes that I will have some recovery. Of course, when I mentioned it in my first followup visit, she quickly dismissed it because of course Rezum does not cause ED. My second followup is next Teusday so we'll see what she has to say then. Anyone else out there end up with ED after Rezum?
