REZUM--HAVE YOU HAD THIS DONE???????

Posted , 385 users are following.

I had a nice conversation today with the President of the "Urology Times". He was telling me that there is a "New Procedure" that has been approved called the "REZUM SYSTEM".  The company that makes the system is called "NXThera, Inc".  You can google them up and lots of stuff comes up.  I called them for a referral and they gave me a Doctor in Minnepolis that has done it over 50 times now.  I called his nurse and she said he would call me back and answer my questions on monday.  As you guys probably know Doctors are not very good at returning calls but we'll see what happens.  Iam not very good at explaining how the procedure works but basically they take the device and put it up the uretha and vaporize the prostate cells which kills them.  It works with high pressure "steam" that at a certain degree will kill the prostate tissue.  My question for you guys is there anybody out there that has had it done to them and how are you getting along and are there "side effects", etc etc?????

I thought the euro lift procedure Was only good if your prostrate is not too big? That's what my euro doctor said, so who knows. Dave

Any chance you could tell me which practice you went to.  I would like to get a second opinion. Dave

Not sure if anyone saw it but 10 days ago I had a stone removed that was stuck in my prostatic urethra and was the size of a quarter. The urologist pushed it up into my bladder during cystoscopy and had to use a laser to break it up and take it out. I was under about 40 minutes. Man though afterward my flow was better than I ever remember it. Now I'm at the ER tonight because ive got urgency and I'm going very little compared to the last 10 days. My concern is UTI since I've been vulnerable, especially since I'm post operative. My bladder aches and I'm having strange pressure again in my perenium area. All the same signs I had last time I had a UTI. I thought I had this beat. Doesn't help I'm just getting over the flu. But man if I could explain how great I could pee once that stone was out of my urethra! Was pure bliss.

And I chose the ER because there is bad weather coming tomorrow and I'm worried my local primary care will be closed on base. They do that often.

Wow Robert, what a huge stone ! It is good that you had it removed. Have a speedy recovery. Hank

Thanks Hank. I'm actually hoping this is a UTI to get an answer for my current urgency. I honestly thought I was out of the woods. I was having the normal post operative carp and some pretty crappy constipation

No problem.  Try to relax  Stones can be a pain in the butt.  Never had bladder stones but had kidney stones in both the size of jaw breakers.  I have a picture of one of them and the thing they blasted them with Rest and God Bless  Ken

Yep jaw breaker sounds about right. Thing grew in my urethra. I'm still having issues but its probably post operative crap. Doc never told me what to expect during recovery. I found out about the constipation on my own....was horrific

Yes it can be.  When I had my Urolift done ,  My doctor gave me a stool softener because they to not want you to force the issue.  I had the stones when I was 47 about 15 years ago.  That is how I got my stricture. He did it in 3 weeks one each week.  That was a lot going in and out.  Take it easy  Ken

Doc nust csme in and said he believes it is epididimytis. Ive had that before and I will accept his diagnosis because man my BOYS have been aching on and off the last few days. Be juat examined them and now I'm habing shooting pain in my nuts. And it can make you have urgency. He gave me a shot of Rocephin and will send me home with Doxycyxline. I hope he's right but all the time before I never had my testicles hurt like they do now during this whole bog treatment process. I hope he is right. Calling my uro doc tomorrow. This will be my third post REZUM complication. Of course this one is from the stone removal but they are all linked.

All the symptoms (epididymitis, bladder stones, pain) seem to point to UTI. Hope it go away soon. Long term, you need to solve the stones problem. If there was one that large, there are probably many smaller ones, waiting to become larger, unless you flush them out. If you know how to self cath, now is the time. Catheters can flush stones out with less chance of them sticking to the inside of the urethra. The trick is self cathing when your bladder is not empty so the urine can flush the stones out. Hank

Let's  hope that will help you.  You have had a lot with this procedure.  I wish you well  Yes Let's hope he is right  Ken

Take care of your constipation. It can and will make everything worse. I would take stool softeners with every meal until it is gone. Hank

During the procedure Friday the doc said he got all of the stone. It was the only one. It developed as a complication from REZUM and the really bad UTI I had that followed. I hope the doc is right about the diagnosis last night. And you're right, the constipation makes everything worse. I've been on a mild laxative but I was also on T3 for pain post operative for 10 days. I hope that will go away now that I'm not on it anymore. Doc last night wanted to give me Hydrocodone for pain and I asked about constipation and he said yes so I told him no thanks I will deal with it. It has 100 percent made it worse. Crazy.....I ha e to be back to normal soon. And my uro is closed today due to inclement weather. Texas......it's just cold out

Thanks Ken I really appreciate it. How have you been I've not been active enough in here the last two weeks

How did Urologist discover that you had the stone?

It's quite possible UTI would explain urgency. I'm not sure it would explain you retaining - my guess is you're all inflamed inside from the procedure, so maybe take some anti-inflammatory medicine ?

You are fortunate if there was only one stone. More likely it was the only one that was large, to be seen by the doc. Under conducive environments like UTI, retention, catheterization, post procedure, stones will form. It's just a matter of you can flush them out by normal urination or not. Take care. Hank

Thank Hank. Luckily ibe not had retention issues. Prior to REZUM my largest pvr was 100ml. After I think it was 22. Ive just had a run of really bad luck with surgery and the stone removal is no exception

If you're taking cold medicine for your flu, that can also give you temporary prostate symptoms .
