REZUM - Is it for me?
Posted , 9 users are following.
Good Day,
I am a 54 year old with a prostate that is 85cc in size.
have been taking Flomax for to help with urine flow and had
very limited success with it.
I was told that I should look into Rezum before considering
TURP because of the lack of sexual side effects.
Would like to hear the experiences from anyone that went through
the procedure with a prostate as big at mine and reviews on the Dr. who did
your procedure.
Thank You

I assume that you have been checked for Prostate Cancer, if you are having problems with urine flow?
I have had PC that has been treated by Proton Therapy but had a 4 month course of hormone therapy to shrink the prostate and reduce testosterone. This did shrink the prostate and reduced flow as a result. Now on Tonsulosen which helps with flow while I wait to get back to normal.

I'm sorry to say everyone is very different...... But I wouldn't suggest this... It didn't help me at all and now I'm back to square one, looking into Uriolift...............
I've suffered with a large prostate since my 40's............
At 58 I had the Rezum and it was AWFUL!!! and so many side effects.... Nothing worked for me with this procedure.......
Good luck and maybe it will work for you.
My Dr was Lawrence Goldstone in Atlanta Georgia

The size of your prostate isn't a limitation for the Rezum procedure. They can do procedures on larger prostates. Mine was 'only' 68cc, and was a simple, painless and successful procedure.
The success of the procedure also depends on what is causing your BPH symptoms. For example, do you have an enlarged median lobe?
You really do need an evaluation by a Rezum urologist before you make a decision.

Ken,
According to the Rezum instructions, prostate volume should be between 30 and 80cm3. My doc will not go above 80. Just wanted to throw that out there.

Tim, you're right, that's what is published on the literature. But I understood from my urologist that they can now do much larger prostates. However, that urologist who did my Rezum is at a major university medical center, and it's possible that they are doing some procedures that aren't yet universally available.

Hey Rod
First of all welcome. I'm sorry that you have to deal with this.
It is best to start with a less evasive procedure. Urolift, Rezum & PAE are the ones that carry the least of the side effects.
With the size of your prostate you do not qualify for a Urolift. You still have the Rezum and PAE to look into. The Turp is considered a last resort procedure. You are just starting I feel that you are not at your last resort yet.
But that is not up to me our anyone on this site. If you do not want to deal with the side effects then you need to look into the other procedures. They have worked for many men you just have to find a good doctor to do it.
Sit down and make a list of pros and cons. What you want out of the procedure and what you can and can't live with.
Good luck in you search............Ken

It is certainly the case that each of us who frequent this site have slightly different issues based on prostate size and shape (median lobe). There is also potentially other issues that could be causing the issues other than BPH. For example it might be a bladder problem and not an issue with the prostate at all. A thorough examination that uses a battery of techniques and procedures should lay bare the underlying problem. Only at that point can you hope to then investigating what is right for you. Outside of cancer, which is a different route, a simple approach, particularly considering your age, is to look at the least invasive procedures first. For example PAE is usually a shot to nothing as it does not preclude subsequent treatment if it proves to be less than satisfactory. I know how irritating and how easily the symptoms and certain Urologists can bounce you into making precipitate judgements but this is often something that leads to irreversible regret. Take your time, there are some big decisions ahead,
