Rezum procedure has been a total failure.

Been taking Tamsulosin for 2 years and had no problems sleeping thru the night. Urologist was concerned that my bladder did not fully evacuate leaving 250-300 ml. Recommended the Rezum procedure to alleviate this and allow me to stop the Rx med - - which sounded good since I try to avoid long-term Rx meds whenever possible.

No problem with the procedure except some pain that quickly subsided. Never was told of possible side effects, but Dr. di say they were 70%+ effective. Wore a catheter and bag for the next week. Couldn't urinate by myself. New catheter installed for another week with the same outcome.

They installed a plastic stent and no catheter. Still unable to urinate I went to the emergency room where they installed another catheter and bag. Returned to my original urologist who showed me how to self-catheteritize and asked me to do it at least 3x daily, which I did for 2 months. At no time have I been able to urinate - - not 1 cc. Sex drive is at zero.

At most recent visit to the Rezum doctor, he was disappointed in the results and said it might be due to my larger than average size but healthy prostate 40g.

Now stuck with self-catheterizing 3x a day for who knows how long. He talked about a "Roto-Router" procedure but no way would I follow his recommendation. He billed insurance about $5,000 so he's happy.

I had the procedure done also because of a weak urine flow and having about 400 cc left in my bladder. an about a month later I started to have massive blood clots in my urine which in turn block my bladder so I couldn't urinate I had to rush to the emergency room in excruciating pain, it was so bad I wanted to pass out so I wouldn't feel it. Morphine didn't help I eventually had surgery stayed in the hospital over night. An 2 weeks later the blood clot were back in full force I had hematuria of the prostate an bladder the whole time and Noone could figure out why I had to get a blood transfusion twice surgery again and I ended up staying in the hospital for a week. now I have no Sex drive it still hurt to a lesser degree but I had the last surgery on December 1st. Don't get the procedure.

My situation is very similar to yours. Been on Tamsulosin for about 10 years. About 300cc residual. Was thinking maybe I should just live like this and deal with it but figured what do I have to lose trying Rezum? I found out a lot. The procedure was WAYYYY more painful than described! Failed voiding test after one week of Foley catheter. Failed again after the second week. Kept failing after that. Been to ER twice in two weeks for a Foley after they send me home thinking it might get better without a cath. I can't cath myself. Sometimes it wo'nt go past my prostate and it's way too painful in my urethra. So since Rezum, I've pretty much had a Foley in me for 7 months until I got a TURP. I can finally pee now but not without straining and tightening my stomach muscles and holding my breath. I'm really scared now that I might give myself a stroke or hernia or heart aneurysm. My bladder doesn't contract anymore. It did before the procedure but maybe not all the way. Also, since Rezum, it killed my erections. I would have been so much better without it. I'm wondering if it was done properly.
