Rezum was successful

Diagnosed in Jan with BPH - age 61 - classic symptoms. I rejected Flomax (never tried it) and TURP. My research led me to Rezum. Procedure was performed on June 1. The worst part was the catheter for 5 days. 3 Meds were used during the procedure...ciprofloxacin (antibiotic shot in rear), diazepam (1 pill to "take the edge off") and oxycodone (1 pill) for pain reduction. No general anesthesia. The pain from the shots was bearable. (6 shots total of the steam). I had the luxury of being home for the 5 days after the procedure with easy access to empty catheter bag. It isn't fun but necessary until the healing process gets underway. Everything is great now with no adverse affects. It worked for me but is not guaranteed. If you want to try Rezum, I highly recommend it. My doc is Andrew H Nguyen, MD with Fairview (M Health) Urology in Edina/Burnsville MN. The staff from the moment I made the initial call through the procedure and follow up today were all excellent. They made me comfortable, attended to every detail, told me what to expect, and were available after the procedure if I needed them. Follow up today shows bladder retention score from original 300+ml to 26ml! My original case is what I would describe as average symptoms (I didn't get up much during the night) but I did have sudden and frequent urges and sometimes weak stream. Rezum has reset me to a normal situation, can drink water and tea and not feel I have to rush to the bathroom every 20 minutes. I had to go "out of network" but it was worth it! (7K)
