Rheumatoid factors

please can someone advise me, for the last 5 years I have been treated for gout, following admission into hospital and knee was aspirated. I take allinpurinol 600mg, recently I have had 4 really bad episodes not only effecting my knee but both of my hands. Desperate I went to see my Gp as I couldn't stand the pain any more, Allinporinal and volterol was ineffective, bloods taken and showed my rheumatoid factor was 35+ and  I'm now awaiting to be seen by a rheumatologist in March. My question is do I have rheumatoid arthritis and gout? Or could my gout be cured a long time ago, and it's now rheumatoid arthritis that was flaring up? Any advice will be greatly received.

I have never had gout, but a friend did. Between ra and gout he was miserable. He watched his diet so he was finally able to head off more bouts of gout.

      Hi

Sorry you are having so much difficulty with pain not being controlled.   Yes, you can have both gout and RA.   From what I recall gout is quite easy to diagnose from blood tests.  Perhaps now this is no longer gout and you now have a new diagnosis

Read as much as you can about RA and be prepared to ask questions at the rheumatologist office.     Best wishes,  Gloria

Thank you, gout was diagonised by aspiration in hospital, it's the RA factor that bothers me. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
