Rheumatologist says no PMR and get off predisone

I have been on predisone for three weeks and my internist sent me to the rheumatologist.  He immediately said I do not have PMR because it does not present in the hands.  He wants me off the predisone and then back in 3 weeks.  He will then test for RA.  Anyone else have this happen?

Although I started out with groin, hips and neck, and also my chest, so I had trouble taking a deep breath. After 2 months it was affecting my wrists and then went to my right hand, so I could not bend my middle finger and it was hugely swollen. I really could do nothing with that hand, I was misdiagnosed with Fibromyalgia (after all the tests that were negative, except the HLA B27). The only thing that helped with the hand was a cortisone shot below the thumb. The swellng to the finger and hand receded and I could use that hand, but I was still stuck with painful swollen wrists. By the time I was finally diagnosed with PMR, 4 months after startˆng to feel symptoms, my knees had also started to hurt and I had a feeling of congestion in my lower legs.

    Such a weird disease.
