Hello everyone, At the end of my tether as yet again the arrival of Spring sees me losing sleep due to thick green mucus every night being coughed up. Red eyes, blocked nose etc. Have it all year round but worse March- Sept. Mad as NHS allegist says I'm not it's not hayfever. Please help any advise very welcome. Use Amays nasal spray and saline rinse which helps me breathe but does nothing to lesson symptoms. Antihistamines have no effect. What's wrong with me?

Hello sharonamy1965, I can only sympathise and say my persistant rhinitis is dictating my every move even as I type this. You say you cough-up green mucus (sputum?..) ...you mean off your lungs? That sounds like an infection......is it really green? usually green indicates infection. Rhinitis, hayfever etc is not associated with the lungs except if there's post-nasal drip and this can cause congestion in lungs.....I know, I have it! But if I coughed green sputum I'd go to GP for antibiotics, prednisolone (perhaps), get another Ventolin if asthma problematic.......

........the rest of your sysmptoms don't appear suspect....just the usual nasal nightmares............

Thanks very much for the reply shaunm1963. Yes definitely green and not infectious apparantly. Had it tested a few years ago. It comes from my nose as I blow it out as well and causes a very annoying itchy cough. It always appears March - Sept although allegist says I'm not allergic! I beg to differ. Also, every year I lose my voice for a couple of months around July. Totally fed up with life at the moment. I have other health problems and this on top every day of the year really takes the biscuit...

Do you suffer from acid reflux? I was diagnosed with perrenial rhinitis and one of my symptoms was a tickly cough. I went back to the doctor's after months of this cough and the doctor asked me if I had reflux. I do. I am now on tablets to reduce the reflux and my cough has gone. Apparently, the acidic gases can cause this.
