Right hip replacement

Hey ev1, just had a thr on the right side 3weeks ago, everything has went well but I'm a bit concerned about my muscle where my scar is down my thigh, it seems to be out of place and is warm to touch and sore, does this just need more time to heal?

It seems like I have an extra leg nd burns even more when doing my physio exercises

I'm 2 years into it and I remember my scar and muscle feeling bumpy or swelled as well.

My doc told me that if I started to feel pain or discomfort while doing therapy, to stop that exercise for awhile.

If the scar continues to feel warm to the touch or looks red, just call your doc to get it checked!

    Good luck!

It's not red just warm and swollen, seems like my main muscle is out of place, feels weird!!

How long did it take for your swelling to go down? I know ev1 is different.

I'm 36 and with being young for this sort of surgery has me worried, also desperate to get back to work xx

I remember feeling like I was sitting on a cell phone or something but I don't remember it feeling warm to the touch.

I actually still have a slight bulge on my side.

I'm 58 and to be honest with you, I still get little pains or twinges here and there but it sure feels much better than it did before the surgery.

I don't work so I can't help you with how long it took for other people.

Don't get discouraged. It may sometimes be a long road to travel but don't push yourself. Let your body heal!

You'll find a lot of people here who can help answer some of your questions.

If  my scar was red, hot and swollen I would be seeing the GP immediately. I don't think you can be too careful this early on after your operation. You need to rule out an infection. They can also check the muscle to put your mind at ease.

I am sure it is nothing, and most likely just healing but always better just to be sure - I hope it goes well and all is okay

    xx

I think what I said has been picked up totally wrong, my scar is perfectly fine and has healed really well but I have a bulge near the scar which is warm to touch and swollen, this seems to be the muscle and I was wondering if any1 else had experience of this.

      There is no redness!

      Hi Kelly,

Swelling in the early weeks is normal.  Try elevating your leg and apply ice packs to it.  This should help to reduce swelling and pain.

If you notice it getting worse or concerned about anything, I would see your GP.

      Best wishes!

Hi Kelly! I am now 8 months in from my hip replacement I had to have a second surgery on the same hip because I dislocated it so my first surgery was done anterior the second one was done I believe it's called posterior where he had to lift the butt muscle. I noticed months ago that area of the second surgery was always swollen and warm to the touch. I'm still icing and of course I do use heat. feels very good when I do. the muscle is not warm to the touch anymore but it doesn't look normal like the other side. I don't if it's because of the scar. Sometimes it gets sore and I got to stretch that butt muscle. I had 6 months physical therapy. I'm back in gym now trying to get these hip muscles stronger. I too had that feeling of sitting on a rock whr ever I sat. It's gotten better but still there. Not as intense. Sitting on a cushion helps or sometimes I just sit with only one butt cheek on chair. It should start to get better as you keep using these muscles and exercising them. Be sure to massage the area as well as the scar. Wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery and healing!! Hugs 🤗LD

Thanks for the advice Linda, yeah they went in posterior on me.

The only pain I really have is the muscle

During the night I get quite a bit groin pain but I have more or less stopped all my painkillers

Oh I forgot to mention I also am experiencing a burning, tight feeling in the buttock of the operated hip. Right hip. It can be so annoying and bothersome. LD

    hi kelly,

warm welcome to the best forum for hipsters ..

What kind of approach did you have ? I had posterior and my scar(s) are on the side/back and about 12 cm long - like zippers ...

You just had major invasive surgery where tissues were severed, handled, your leg pulled around and joint forcefully dislocated - this can make fluid build up in the hours afterwards. This can stay or ebb and flow for days and even a couple of weeks.

Your leg might have been badly manipulated and muscle is bruised -

Maybe better to have it checked to make sure there is nothing else going on .

Better safe than sorry, as the saying goes ---

let us know how you are getting on, okay ...

    big warm hug

    renee
