Are you in the UK? I had my THR 10 weeks ago, and apart from 10 minutes with a physio in the hospital I have had nothing else. Like you, 2 days in hospital and then sent home with a pamphlet with some exercises to do. Saw consultant for a check up after 6 weeks and all fine. I am back to walking the dog a couple of miles each day but still suffer from swollen ankles and cannot bend to tie my own shoelace on the operated side - I am sure this will slowly improve

hi Tina,. Didn't any physiotherapist see you in hospital regarding exercises whilst you were in and arrange any followups? I had my hip operation 4 weeks ago and saw them in the ward, and going to Outpatients now.

hello Tina how are you doing. the first couple of weeks just managing, walker, pain meds and keep leg iced as well a pumping exercises is a tough time.
in a few more weeks you will feel better and more confident using a walker.
your hip can heal on its own no pt is necessary. as long as you follow the surgeons advice after initial surgery. leg pumps and move with caution, use walker, no driving.. in 6-8 weeks when you go in for hip xray check with surgeon then ask then about PT. many people dont need pt as long as they just a practice good walking gate in new shoes and walk daily . many try pt and over do actually causing set backs in healing. stay on what works for you and dont compare your healing to anyone else.
i have had three three hip joint replacements , each one was different in healing and recovery...and each time i just walked. then when walking correctly without cane or walker slowly work up to longer times and length from 20' to 30' as so on...as healing takes place you will see progress in 6 weeks time until the 8 month mark very little thought into walking in some cases it takes longer to get to that point.
never over do, stop immediately when pain starts your body is telling you to stop. in time slowly life gets back to normal. be cautious, be safe , prevent falling, and you soon will be over the immediate issues . it takes about a good 6-8 months for short term healing and over a year for long term .
sending healing vibes your way.

I had my right hip replaced on November 17 and during the PT I actually fainted due to my pressure being too low. After being pumped with fluids for over an hour to get my pressure back, I was discharged and given my prayers and told to do the exercises in the packet. I was told hip patients aren't given any PT classes and the Doctor will see me at my 5 week appointment.
