Right side of my chest sunken! I'm worried!

Im 17 and a real athlete, however in the past few weeks I noticed that around 5-6 of my ribs on the right side have sunk. It's not directly from the sternum, it's a few centimeters and then the ribs sink. When I run for a long period of time it causes me to cough violently, struggle with breathing, and it causes emense pain, and I don't know what to do. It feels like I've broken them because of how abrupt the ribs attached to the sternum ends them I would say 2-3 centimeters it drops. Can any one help?

    Hi Corinne

You need to go to A&E straight away, especially as you find it difficult to breath, and tell them you've had an accident and explain about your ribs. They should send you for an XRay. Your Dr would probably suggest you go there anyway.

Let us know how you get on.

    Best Regards

Hi Corrine;  sorry to worry you more, but yes....you need to have a chest x-ray....if they are broken and you continue to put pressure on them, they could puncture your lung....and then you WILL have real probs....do it straight away.....Bron
