    Liz,

What does your surgeon say? Are you in pain everyday? can you walk up an down stairs normally?

I am 10 months out. I have not had ONE DAY without pain since my surgery. The swelling is so bad it feels like a tourniquet, the skin is so tight it feels like it is going to rip. I have no pain meds . If it weren't for my ice machine I would lose my mind. I still can't walk down stairs normally, if I sit for any amount of time I am very stiff. It hurts to walk. My surgeon rarely touches my knee, he will take an xray once in awhile. I have gone to PT ,done everything they asked, home exercises-and it is getting worse. Last month he told me to STOP all exercises. And he would see me in 3 months!!!!Can you imagine? One day later I was so stiff I could barely move. I got a 2nd opinion. This surgeon. really examined me. He talked about drawing fluid, running blood tests, he had no idea why I was still so swollen and still in so much pain. At one point he put t one hand over the other without warning me and "cracked" my knee. Tremendous pressure . My knee has been even worse since he did that . He didn't even warn me. I would never have agreed to that. So I am going back to see him Tuesday. I can't live like this for the rest of my life. Something is wrong and he made it worse. I will not have another surgery.

I think it's time for you to get another opinion . It sounds like your doctor has written you off. It is ridiculous to be in this much pain, a year after your surgery. Please keep us updated and I will do the same. The 2nd surgeon did sayI could resume some of my exercises. I walk 6-8,000 steps a day. So difficult to stay positive.

i am 27 months post op. I don’t have one day when my leg is not stiff or in pain. I too have been to many doctors as well as my own surgeon. They all say the same thing, "its fine. I AM LEARNING TO LIVE WITH IT. I am convinced all pain in leg is from this surgery. Some people do well, unfortunately we are not those people. Good luck to you, I keep praying one day I will wake up and feel good, I pray the same for you

Have you had your 12 month review and x-ray? What does your surgeon say? It doesn't sound right if it's still that swollen. Are you doing too much and icing and elevating if it's swollen still? I hope you get some answers.

Common. Usually caused by hip misalignment when you've favored one leg over the other to subconsciously avoid pain. No drugs...no expensive orthotics. See a chiropractor who can fix that pelvic tilt. Could take a few treatments a week for a month or so to reset your hips and then get your body to hold the correct alignment.

It is extremely rare that the surgery itself caused the discrepancy in leg length. This can be confirmed by your orthopedic surgeon via x-ray. However, if he/she did the standard 6-week alignment check x-ray and everything was fine, then it is probably misaligned hips that a chiro can cure in a heartbeat.

I have to say after reading replies that a lot of whats mentioned is not normal , I've had both knees done by different surgeons and both times by 3 months I had little swelling or pain . I would be going back to surgeon .
